Safer Gambling Week 2024: Who should you contact for help?
By Lucy Wynne
As we head into mid-November, we are reminded of ‘Safer Gambling Week’ which is held from 18 November to 24 November; and this time acts as a reflection on the importance of safe play.
Safer Gambling Week is an industry initiative to promote safer gambling across the UK and in Ireland. Within the jurisdictions mentioned, there are many resources available to make sure you are having a fun time while also playing safely and betting within your means. As the classic quote goes, “don’t spend more than you are willing to lose”.
In the UK and Ireland there are several features provided by multiple operators, to help you control your betting habits such as: reality checks, deposit limits, self exclusion and time-outs.
As well as being able to set control on your accounts, there are also multiple charities available that can help guide you, or a loved one, through how to gamble responsibly. Certain charities help with particular stages of addiction.
- GamCare - This organisation offers a wide range of treatment options for those dealing with gambling harm. This charity also provides self exclusion options that will block you from betting at any casinos or bookies partnered with the charity.
