Rapper Lil Baby has admitted to gambling $8m-$9m (£6.4m-£7.2m) within 40 hours and has asked to be banned from every casino in Nevada, confessing: “I don’t gamble no more.”
Lil Baby, otherwise known as Dominique Armani Jones, is a 30-year-old rapper from Atlanta, Georgia. He had a catapult to fame following his second studio 'My Turn' (2020) being the best-selling album that year; and going quadruple platinum.
However, it wasn’t always losses, prior to his success in the music industry Lil Baby gambled $60, loaned to him from his sister, and turned it into over $100,000 from hustling at the casinos on the dice game, craps. In 2022 it was also reported that he won $1m at MGM Resorts in Las Vegas on the baccarat.
When speaking on A Safe Place podcast, earlier in the month - hosted by Lil Yachty - the host asked how much he had ever lost at gambling in one sitting. To which Lil Baby responded that he had lost $8m or $9m within 40 hours.
Lil Baby honoured Michael Rubin, CEO of Fanatics, in saying that he helped him to self-exclude and guided him to recovery.
He said: “I made myself stop gambling. I had Mike Rubin write a letter to every casino and ban me from the casino. Because I’ll just do s***. I don’t gamble no more.”
The state of Nevada does not have a statewide self-exclusion programme, so to self-exclude from casinos you have to go into the casino to do it; hence why he got Rubin to write the letters.
Speaking on the young rapper’s gambling issues, legendary 'Candy Shop' rapper, 50 Cent - notoriously known for trolling Floyd Mayweather about his gambling habits - took to social media with a screenshot of the podcast episode and stated: “$8m gambling. I thought only Floyd do shit like that. LOL come out the joint looking distraught. I’m just glad he didn’t kill nobody.”
