Punter cashes out potential £98,000 acca for £21,000 ahead of Tottenham game
One bettor seemingly lost faith in Tottenham ahead of their Europa League clash last night, cashing out an £11 accumulator for £21,000. Before the start of the season, the bettor placed a 7-way accumulator on pure football bets.
Despite only three of the seven bets having been completed, the player cashed out their £11 bet to take £21,000. If all the bets had come good, they would have won £98,000 and the timing looks suspiciously like it was Spurs who gave the William Hill punter cause for concern, at least according to the bookmaker.

The first three of the seven bets have already come good. Liverpool won the Premier League at a canter. Bookmakers Betfred and Paddy Power both paid out on the title as early as February, although the Reds only officially won the title on 27 April, when they beat Spurs. The punter got odds of 9/2 before a ball was kicked.
The bettor also got 5/2 on Burnley finishing in the top two in the Championship. Burnley are currently second and eight points clear of third place Sheffield United with just one game to go.
Then 9/2 on Wrexham to finish top two in League One has also been assured, with the Welsh club sitting five points clear of Stockport with one game left.
Other bets include Doncaster to win League Two. They are one point clear of Port Vale with one game to go, and this may have represented the one bet that was most likely to fail.
In the Bundesliga, the lucky bettor was waiting for Bayern Munich to officially seal the title. They are currently eight points clear with three games to go.
In European competitions, they were hoping for Chelsea to win the Conference League and Tottenham to make it to the final of the Europa League.
Had the bettor waited until today, their cash-out value would likely have been much higher. Chelsea were dominant in the first leg of their semi-final, beating Djurgarden 4-1 away from home. And Tottenham have one leg in the final, having beaten Bodo/Glimt 3-1 at home.
All individual bets look very likely to pay off, hence the player was given a high cash-out value considering less than half of the accumulator's legs had completed.
While both Tottenham and Chelsea played last night, a William Hill spokesperson is confident they know the reason for the early cash-out.
Lee Phelps said: “One William Hill customer decided to cash out of a potential £98,000 return ahead of Tottenham’s Europa League semi-final clash against Bodo/Glimt.
“The seven-leg accumulator placed at almost 9000/1 odds with a stake of £11 returning £21,001, after bets including Liverpool, Burnley and Wrexham. With only Bayern Munich, Doncaster, Chelsea and Tottenham as the remaining selections, our customer clearly lacked confidence in Spurs’ chances to reach the Europa League final and opted to cash out of the bet ahead of their clash against the Norwegian outfit.”
Manchester United were also in Europa League action last night, beating Athletic Bilbao 3-0 away from home. Statistics providers Opta now give an 88% chance of an all-English final in the competition, with a place in next season’s Champions League going to the winner.
