Southampton next manager odds: Danny Rohl, Liam Rosenior and Steven Gerrard all linked with Saints

Ivan Juric’s disastrous time at Southampton was put to an end following the confirmation of their relegation to the Championship this past weekend.
The Saints have endured a torrid season in the top-flight, and need one point to ensure that they are at least level with Derby County’s infamous lowest points record.

With Southampton set for the second-tier next season, they will need a new man in the dugout to guide them back into the Premier League.
Danny Rohl lines up as the bookies favourite to take the job at 4/9 via Coral, after being heavily linked with the role following Russell Martin’s departure earlier in the season.
The German has done a fantastic job at Sheffield Wednesday in his first managerial role, as he helped them escape the relegation zone last season and has positioned the club as outsiders for the play-offs this season, amidst a chaotic regime behind the scenes.
Rohl has a clear style of play that is more suited to the Southampton squad, and his appointment would certainly be a progressive and popular one in Hampshire.
Liam Rosenior (8/1) has shown what he is capable of while at Strasbourg, guiding them to an unlikely European place with an incredibly young team.
His possession-heavy style was possibly one of the reasons he was dismissed from Hull in his previous English job, although that decision has not aged well, with the Tigers battling relegation to League 1 under new management.
It seems unlikely that Rosenior would leave a team in Europe to drop to the Championship, but there is a chance that the Saints could provide a financial offer to the Englishman that he cannot resist.
Simon Rusk (9/1) and Adam Lallana (12/1) are the current caretaker team, but while they will be focusing on ensuring they do not beat Derby County’s unfortunate record, more than what job they may or may not have next season.
You would also expect the Saints to look to appoint someone with a wealth of experience to try and win back some support following the season that they have just had.
Rob Edwards (14/1) and Steve Cooper (16/1) are steady gaffers who have both Championship promotion and Premier League experience, although there are doubts about their long-term sustainability at clubs.
Sean Dyche (20/1) could find himself back in the second tier following his departure from Everton, and Southampton may be the club to bounce back with, although you may need to rebuild the squad to fit the Englishman’s style.
Gary O’Neil (20/1) is in a similar position, looking to rebuild his career as a manager, and could be a genuine contender considering he started his time in the dugout not too far away at Bournemouth.
Steven Gerrard (20/1) is certainly a complete outsider for the job, but many Championship clubs have gone down the big-name route with mixed success rates, and Frank Lampard’s current uptake in form at Coventry could leave the Saints feeling it is the best way to go.
All odds via Coral are correct at the time of writing.
