A new look for an old favourite: The Pools undergoes a makeover
In UK betting news, long-time betting operator The Pools, which for many years was known as The Football Pools, has undergone a makeover in an attempt to keep up with the fast-moving world of online gambling.
Fondly remembered by people of a certain age, ‘the pools’ is a betting pool made up of entrants predicting football results. Over the years, ‘the pools’ has taken a few forms, and dates back as far as the late 1800’s; when competitions allowing people to predict the outcome of football matches first began.

By the 1920s there were lots of ‘football pools’ in Britain, but ‘The Pools’, originally founded as Littlewoods Football Pool in Liverpool, has long been recognised as the primary player in the market.
If you were born after 1990, then you’ll likely not be as familiar with this classic as people of previous generations, but if you ask an older family member, they’ll probably know a bit about it. At one point, there were up to 14 million players each and every week in the UK, such was its popularity.
As we’re now very much deep into the digital age of sports betting, The Pools has had a facelift, relaunching it’s famous and simplistic results-picking competition online, allowing players to play an old favourite in a new, more modern way.
Announced earlier this week, the relaunch includes a new logo and a widespread marketing campaign designed at reaching new players and reconnecting with old customers looking to embrace the move forward.
CEO of The Pools, James Arnold, stated: “It’s a hugely exciting day for The Pools as we relaunch this iconic and well-loved brand. Our players up and down the country have such an affinity and emotional connection with our product – and we believe our new marketing campaign stays true to them while also looking towards the next generation of The Pools customers.”.
With the help of Amigo Partnership, a creative agency based in the UK’s capital, the company features a brand new logo, which features a design inspired by the original pools coupon and the company has also updated its classic pools offering, with newly-introduced pools-type games; all of which can be enjoyed by new members at the online bookie.
Will we see The Pools back at the front and centre of the football betting world as it once was? Well, it will certainly take some effort to propel this classic back to its former glory, but a bold new rebrand and online launch is a sizeable step in the right direction, that’s for sure.
