Everton state of play

David Moyes is rolling back the years at Goodison Park. The feel-good factor is slowly returning to the club and the veteran Scot has brought some much needed consistency to his side’s Premier League form.

Three wins on the bounce in the top flight suggests confidence is building. However, the wheels came off slightly on Saturday. They’re now out of the FA Cup after Bournemouth secured a comfortable 2-0 win in the fourth round.

Everton cruised to a 4-0 win over Leicester in their last league clash and ex-Udinese man Beto bagged a brace.

Sean Dyche, who was sent packing last month, couldn't get a tune out of Everton in the final third, with the Toffees failing to score in 12 league games this term. But they’ve now found their groove with eight under Moyes in the Premier League.

Liverpool state of play

Liverpool are hitting top gear in the Premier League and remain the team to beat. They also eased past Tottenham last week to book their place in the Carabao Cup final. However, Arne Slot’s side suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Plymouth in the FA Cup on Sunday after a painfully lacklustre display.

It remains to be seen if that result will affect them. The Reds did show maturity in their last Premier League outing against Bournemouth. They recorded a 2-0 win despite patches of dominance from the Cherries.

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool were top of the table this time last season but fell away in their final eight games to finish third. Mohamed Salah said Liverpool's title challenge "feels different" to previous seasons and it's hard to argue with the Egypt international.

Key talking point: Can Everton cause an upset under the Goodison Park lights?

The move to Everton's new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock is edging ever closer. This Merseyside derby will be one for the history books and the occasion won't be lost on Moyes.

Crucially though, the Toffees still need more points on the board to be certain of avoiding the drop. Liverpool will provide a stern test, but the Everton faithful can be encouraged by recent Premier League displays.

With Goodison Park rocking, cool heads will be needed on both teams. And regardless of this rivalry, a lot of teams would like to avoid Everton at the moment - especially on home soil.

Slot, however, won't be concerned. His side is packed with experience and the win over Bournemouth was their 17th victory of the campaign. He’s expected to bring his big guns back into the fold after Liverpool’s shock humbling against Plymouth.

FIRST’s top tip for Everton vs Liverpool

Alexis Mac Allister to be carded at 5/2 (Bet442)

The Argentina international is tied with Dominik Szoboszlai and Darwin Nunez for the most yellow cards (six) by a Liverpool player in the Premier League this season.

He started in the 2-0 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League last time out and struggled in midfield with Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch alongside him.

In a tightly contested derby fixture, Everton could look to rile up the ex-Brighton man.

Extra tips

Mohamed Salah first goalscorer at 5/2 (Bet442)

The Egypt international is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. He’s bagged a staggering 21 goals in 23 games this term. That’s already three more than what he notched in the whole of the previous season.

Beto anytime goalscorer at 3/1 (Betway)

Given their injury issues, Everton are now relying on Beto to remain fit. He couldn’t find the net against Bournemouth despite playing 90 minutes. But the big man really impressed against Leicester and will be full of confidence.

Team news

Moyes is missing Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti. Midfielder Orel Mangala has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

For Liverpool, Joe Gomez returned to the fold to face Plymouth. However, he was forced off early.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been out of action recently and it's unclear if he'll be fit for the derby clash.
