Key planned developments include a state-of-the-art private residential facility and all-new international services. Carlisle, a public advocate for safer gambling, will lead the organisation’s charge during this period of change.
In a press release revealing the hire, Gordon Moody points to the 45-year-old’s experience in the media, charitable and public sectors as driving factors behind his arrival. Moreover, Carlisle’s personal journey - as well as ongoing efforts to assist those suffering from gambling harm - are expected to aid this fresh venture.
Carlisle played his final professional football match in 2013 and has since held several posts with crucial parties. Having served as board chair for The Kaleidoscope Plus Group, a suicide awareness team; as well as COO for It’s Mental, he is adequately acquainted with matters covered by Gordon Moody.
The Preston native also stood as an ambassador for Mind - a mental health charity supported by volunteers and fundraisers.
Clarke Carlisle expressed pride while discussing his appointment in a public statement: “I’m incredibly proud to be joining Gordon Moody at such an exciting time. The organisation has been at the forefront of gambling addiction support for over 50 years, and I’m looking forward to helping expand its impact nationally and internationally.”
Touching on the personal nature of this post, Carlisle said: “Supporting people struggling with gambling addiction is deeply personal to me, and I’m honoured to contribute to this vital mission.”
Ryan Murphy, Gordon Moody commercial director, lauded Carlisle as the “perfect fit” for the charity association: “I’m delighted to welcome Clarke to the team and the wider Gordon Moody family, his passion, insight, and deep commitment to recovery make him a perfect fit for our team.
“His lived experience, combined with his professional background and influence in the mental health and sport sectors, brings a unique and invaluable perspective to our work. As we navigate a new chapter of growth and innovation, expanding into private and international sectors. Clarke’s strategic mindset and dedication to positive change will be instrumental in helping us reach and support more people than ever before. We’re thrilled to have him on board.”
Carlisle’s addition marks the latest in a string of notable manoeuvres by the charitable cause. In March, another former footballer, Dean Sturridge, was named a brand ambassador. The welcoming of Sturridge coincided with the launch of Gambling Harms Awareness Day during the same month.
Gordon Moody also reported a 92% increase in the number of individuals seeking residential treatment - proving the need for influential voices, such as Carlisle and Sturridge, throughout the industry.
Now in its fifth decade of operation, the charity endeavours to enhance global amenities through a series of transformative measures.
