Jackpot.com launches free ticket promotion for new Mega Millions format in April

Online lottery ticket platform Jackpot.com is offering new players free tickets for the revamped Mega Millions game in April. 

Essentially, first-time customers who purchase a Mega Millions ticket via the platform will be awarded a second ticket at no extra cost.

The company announced the promotion earlier this week, coinciding with the launch of the new format of the multi-state lottery, which went live on 8 April. 

Jackpot.com CEO Akshay Khanna said: “We wanted to celebrate the game's new format with an offer that makes playing even more fun and accessible. 

“Our free ticket promotion is a simple way to say: double the tickets, double the thrill — all with the same secure, seamless Jackpot.com experience."

Mega Millions is one of the most popular lottery games in the United States, with 45 states participating in total. 

New changes to the format, which were announced in October last year, include an increase in the starting jackpot from $20m (£15.5m) to $50m. 

Tickets now also include a multiplier, which enables players to potentially multiply non-jackpot prizes. Under the old format, users had to pay an additional price to do this. 

Non-jackpot prizes themselves have also significantly increased. For instance, five winning white balls now have the potential to win between $2m to $10m, whereas this was capped at $1m under the old format. 

Ticket prices have increased slightly, from $2 per play to $5, though odds of winning have also improved (from one in 23 to one in 24). 

Lead director of the Mega Millions consortium, which oversees the game, said the new changes will appeal to a variety of players when they were announced at the end of last year. 

“We are creating a game that both our existing players and people new to Mega Millions will love and get excited about playing,” he said. 

“We expect more billion-dollar jackpots than ever before, meaning creating more billionaires and many more millionaires as the jackpots climb, plus this game will continue the important legacy of supporting great causes everywhere Mega Millions is played.”

Utilising the newly-announced Jackpot.com promotion will only allow players to further enhance their chances of winning.

Founded in 2016, Jackpot.com is currently available in seven US states - Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Ohio, though plans for further expansion remain in the works.
