Super Bowl LIX is fast-approaching as the Kansas City Chiefs look to become the first ever side to win the highly-coveted Lombardi Trophy three years in a row.

The Eagles’ triumph over the New England Patriots in 2018 remains the only time they’ve won the Super Bowl since the first iteration back in 1967.

However, the Chiefs have already won the NFL’s Championship game on four occasions, including back-to-back successes in 2023 and 2024 so could create history by making it a three-peat this Sunday. 

Interest in American football, and in particular the Super Bowl, has grown in the UK in recent years with a wide variety of betting markets now available to UK bettors. 

This has included the emergence of novelty betting lines, which are not directly linked to the sporting result but contribute to the overall experience and spectacle for those watching on.

First song of half-time show

The event’s iconic half-time show seems to garner as much attention, if not more, than the actual game itself.

This year, US rapper Kendrick Lamar is set to headline, becoming the first solo hip-hop artist to do so in Super Bowl history. 

Lamar has a wide variety of hits in his repertoire and most recently released his sixth studio album GNX in 2024.

But which of Kendrick Lamar's award-winning singles will he perform first? 

2017 hit Humble, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, is currently a distant favourite at just over even money. However, fans have been speculating on social media that Not Like Us will be his opening track; to diss rival rapper Drake with the song’s infamous line.

Total songs performed at half-time

We already know Lamar will headline the show, but how many songs will the rapper perform before action resumes on the field? 

The show normally lasts for around 10-15 minutes, allowing artists to perform a mash-up of their biggest hits on stage. 

Last year’s headliner Usher performed 10 songs in total, featuring a host of special guests along the way. 

Will Travis Kelce propose to Taylor Swift?

The Chiefs’ consecutive wins in the last two years aren’t the only reason behind their increase in popularity. 

The team’s tight-end Travis Kelce has drawn lots of attention for his relationship with pop icon Taylor Swift, who is one of the most popular music artists on the planet.

Swift is the most-streamed Spotify artist of all-time and is regularly spotted watching on at Kansas City Chiefs games.

Colour of the Gatorade

It has long been a tradition for members of the victorious team to throw a bucket of ice-cold gatorade over the winning coach.

The New York Giants were the first team to do so at a Super Bowl back in 1987, when Bill Parcells was left dripping wet from the sports drink in the aftermath of their triumph over the Denver Broncos.

In a fun betting twist, players can also bet on the colour of the Gatorade which will be resiliently adorned by one of the two coaches in the early hours of Monday morning.

Coin toss markets

The coin toss takes place moments before the game and determines which side gets first possession of the ball. 

The toss comes down to a call of heads or tails by one of the team’s captains, with the winner getting the choice of either receiving kick-off or which goal to defend first.

Not only can players bet on who will win the toss, but also on whether it will land on heads or tails, making for a fun play before the action has even started at the Caesars Superdome.

Length of National Anthem

The US national anthem has long been sung before major sporting events in the country, but the Super Bowl is unique in that it allows bettors to estimate the length of the performance. 

Louisiana native Jon Baptiste will perform The Star-Spangled Banner in his home state on Sunday, but will his rendition be longer or shorter than 120.5 seconds?

NFL ‘scorigami’ 

The NFL ‘scorigami’ market makes for a fun experience, allowing bettors to place money on whether the game’s final score will be a unique one; which has never been seen before in a Super Bowl.

The last scorigami took place in 2014, when the Seattle Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos by a unique score of 43-8.

Super Bowl LIX is expected to begin at around 11:30pm UK time and will conclude during the early hours of Monday morning.
