Jack Grealish next club odds: Tottenham emerge as likely move for Man City ace

Jack Grealish leaving Manchester City is for the “best” according to manager Pep Guardiola, with Tottenham emerging as his most likely destination.

Grealish has seen his playing time and status in the game diminish over the past few seasons after City paid £100million for the midfielder making him the most expensive British signing in history, eclipsing the fee Manchester United paid to take Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford.

But, in January this year, less than two years after playing a major part in City’s treble-winning 2023 season, manager Pep Guardiola publicly told the midfielder he had to fight for his place and show his worth. And the start of the FIFA Club World Cup has only served to further highlight his slide down the rankings.

Grealish wasn’t just left out of the team, he didn’t travel to the US.

In an interview before City’s first game of the tournament, against Wydad, Pep stated that it would be for the “best” if Grealish left the club, saying: “Jack is an exceptional player. The only reason why he didn’t play last season is of course my decisions. We decide that he has to play. The club was honest, he was honest.”

Despite being an “exceptional player”, Grealish’s value is believed to have slipped to around £30m. If a club can bring the 29-year-old back to anywhere close to his previous best, they would be getting a steal.

Spurs have emerged as a likely destination for several high-profile players. The north London outfit only survived the drop by a single position last season, leading to the sacking of manager Ange Postecoglou. The decision to give the outspoken Australian the boot was met with some derision after he guided the club to their first silverware in 17 years and secured them a place in the Champions League.

With their Champions League promotion likely bringing them at least £50m in additional funds, Grealish would represent an excellent addition to the team sheet, if new manager Thomas Frank can coax some good seasons out of him.

According to bookmakers Ladbrokes, the next most likely destination for the player is Napoli. Along with Inter Milan, Atalanta, and Juventus, Napoli have qualified for next season’s Champions League, thanks in no small part to the performances of former Manchester United man Scott McTominay. Grealish would presumably relish the opportunity to play in the Champions League and may hope to replicate McTominay’s performances after his move.

Other possible suitors for Grealish include Everton, Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Bayer Leverkusen.
