The 61-year-old (1/7 Spreadex) is the bookies’ odds-on favourite. Since leaving Goodison Park, he’s managed Manchester United – succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford - Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham in two separate spells with his second including the famous UEFA Conference League triumph.
Second-favourite Jose Mourinho (6/1 Spreadex) has had numerous spells in English football, most notably with Chelsea but having also managed Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. However, the Special One appears to have ruled himself out of the running.
The 61-year-old is in charge at Fenerbahce, who trail bitter rivals Galatasaray by eight points in the Süper Lig in Turkey. Fener are also hoping to advance to the latter stages of the Europa League and will be amongst the favourites to lift the Turkish Cup.
Another Portuguese coach who managed in Milan is Paulo Fonseca (12/1 Spreadex), who has just left AC Milan. Having also managed the likes of Porto, Braga, Shakhtar Donetsk, Roma and Lille, the 51-year-old boasts an intriguing CV despite his recent San Siro sacking.
Lee Carsley is an interesting option, with the 50-year-old having returned to his role as England Under-21s boss after the former Everton midfielder sat in the Three Lions hot seat on an interim basis. Carsley has the same odds as Fonseca with 12/1 via Spreadex.
Having played for the Toffees more than any other club in his professional career, the former Irish international may be tempted to take the reigns at Goodison Park for his first club job that isn’t on a caretaker basis.
He replaced Gareth Southgate (16/1 Spreadex), with the former England manager amongst other outsiders such as Steve Cooper (22/1 Spreadex), Gary O’Neil (25/1 Spreadex) and interim gaffer Leighton Baines (25/1 Spreadex) who took charge of Thursday night’s cup victory over the Posh.
