Tottenham Hotspur slipped to 14th place in the Premier League table, after Manchester United left it late to sneak past Southampton at Old Trafford last night. Pressure continues to pile on Ange Postecoglou, particularly after Spurs lost the North London derby.

After being taken to extra time by non-League Tamworth in the FA Cup at the weekend, Heung-Min Son fired the visitors in front at the Emirates against Arsenal in their midweek meeting on Wednesday night.

But the Gunners turned it around in the first half to ultimately consign their rivals to their 11th league defeat of the season in 21 Premier League matches. Seven league victories from 21 games will be deemed unacceptable by the Tottenham Hotspur hierarchy.

However, the Premier League table is tight and Spurs could easily ascend up the league table if they can find some consistency. Easier said than done given their absentees – particularly in defence - but despite their woes in the league, Spurs could be up for a cup or two.

Tottenham hold a lead in the EFL Cup semi-finals, after a one goal victory over Liverpool in London. Last midweek proved the perfect first leg, as they aim to end the club’s 17-year hunt for a major trophy in the competition that they last won in 2008.

Spurs are sat in 9th in the Europa League table, with fixtures away to Hoffenheim and at home to Elfsborg to come, as they aim to qualify for the last 16 automatically as opposed to being suckered into the play-offs.

If Ange Postecoglou can win a trophy in his second season at Spurs, just like he’s said he has everywhere else, then Tottenham shouldn’t part company with the Aussie.

However, according to the best UK bookmakers, there are several interesting names in contention to fill the hot seat if the 59-year-old is shown the door

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna and former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic have been installed as the favourites with odds of 6/1, two young managers who have enjoyed successful spells at their current or former clubs.

If the Tractor Boys fell back into the Championship, 38-year-old McKenna may be tempted to return to the club after playing for Spurs as a youth player. He also spent time at Tottenham as a youth coach, so there’d be a certain romanticism surrounding him taking the reins of the first team.

It would be easier for Spurs to agree terms with Terzic, as the German-Croatian is unemployed. The 42-year-old left BVB after losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid, boasting a 66% win rate following his time in charge at Signal Iduna Park.

Meanwhile, Didier Deschamps and Gareth Southgate may be looking for a club job, as the current France manager - leaving his post after the 2026 World Cup - and former England boss are both 8/1 alongside Fulham gaffer Marco Silva and Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso.

Further, Roberto de Zerbi at Marseille and Eddie Howe of Newcastle are two young managers who have performed well in the Premier League, and stand to be next on the list with odds of 10/1.

Other intriguing candidates are former Arsenal boss Unai Emery, plying his trade with Aston Villa, is as likely to take the reins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (12/1) as Jose Mourinho is for a second spell as Spurs manager following his sacking in 2021.

Odds are correct at the time of writing.
