Established in the late 1990s by Swedish native Anders Ström, Unibet has expanded its reach to become one of the more popular options for UK-based sports bettors. With a well-appointed website and app, and a wide range of sports and markets available, Unibet ranks among the top options for UK sports bettors.

What is Unibet all about?

Bonuses

Unibet offers welcome bonuses for sports betting and horse racing betting customers, as well as for their associated casino site. Once you are on board, other rewards are also available, including Super Boosts, which apply boosted odds to every running in selected races, Acca Boosts, with different levels of boost based on the number of selections in your accumulator, and horse racing UniBoosts, which offer boosted odds on the runner of your choice.

Available sports

Unibet offers a plethora of sports to bet on, with a little added Scandinavian flavour. That means, as well as the well-established sports enjoyed by fans in the UK, you can also bet on other sports that are more uniquely popular in the Nordics. That includes chess, yachting and the little-known sport of floorball.

User experience and interface

With a smart green, white and black interface, Unibet’s site is both striking and appealing in equal measure. The navigation is clearly signposted, with sports down the left hand side of the site/app, with odds clearly displayed in green boxes. It’s a smart design that should make the site particularly appealing to new bettors.

Mobile and app compatibility

The Unibet app is clean, crisp, and works well. The only wrinkle we found during our review of the iOS app was that every page appeared to load the FAQ footer first each time, which we found a little annoying over time. But, once the pages are fully loaded, the app gives you a first-class betting experience, with browsing, market selection and bet placement all a breeze.

VIP programmes and loyalty rewards

While Unibet offers a range of customer offers, there is an absence of a clearly defined loyalty programme on their website. The closest thing Unibet offers is the option to opt in for their cashback programme, which returns 5% cashback on sports activity (and 10% on casino activity), based on your stake. So you would earn 5% of your stake, minus any winnings and bonuses.

Diving deeper into Unibet

Licensing

Unibet is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission and is also licensed and regulated in Gibraltar, which is home to many of the world’s leading online betting operators.

Payment methods

While Unibet offers several different payment methods to its customers across Europe, in the UK, those options are reduced to bank transfers, Visa and Mastercards, and Maestro. Apple Pay is also available.

Security and fairness

Once you are logged in, all information sent to and from the Unibet site is encrypted using 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. Card details are only sent over the internet once – during the setup process – and are stored, encrypted, in Unibet’s secure systems. Unibet’s website states that its security is tested several times per year by third-party security experts, and also has an intrusion detection system that monitors the site 24 hours a day, seven days a week for signs of online attacks or potential security breaches. Unibet also has an in-house fraud department, which is on hand to suspend accounts and investigate unusual activity around customers’ accounts.

Responsible gambling measures

Unibet’s website has a Safer Gambling section, which offers responsible gambling information and tools to help you keep sports betting fun. Deposit and loss limits and product blocking tools are available to bettors, while reality checks, time outs, self exclusion and access to software that blocks betting sites (Gamban) are also available. Unibet also offers a behavioural monitoring tool, which aims to spot any major changes in your behaviour, such as excessive betting, or increased time spent on the site. There are also links to several independent organisations that can help with problem gambling. These include GamCare, BeGambleAware, Gamblers Anonymous and more.
