The US Darts Masters produced a few shocks last week. Indeed, both Rob Cross and Stephen Bunting surprisingly lost in the first round to Danny Lauby and Jason Brandon in New York.

FIRST’s pick of Nathan Aspinall (12/1) came agonisingly close to winning the title, narrowly losing the final 8-6 to Luke Humphries.

The 2024 world champion isn’t in the field this week, nor is Damon Heta, who reached the semi-finals stateside.

Chris Dobey and Jonny Clayton replace the pair, and are among the eight PDC contingent that will face off against eight Eastern European players in Poland.

This is the final World Series of Darts event to take place in Europe, with Australia and New Zealand hosting the final two tournaments of the series in August.

The favourites

With Humphries not taking part, Luke Littler is the clear favourite to win the title, sitting at odds of 5/4 via BetMGM. Considering the 18-year-old has reached just one semi-final in four World Series attempts, these odds are short enough to avoid this week.

With Littler, however, form means nothing, especially given his prodigious talent. The teenager hasn’t won a title since the start of March. This week would be a great time to end this drought.

Following a strong performance at the US Darts Masters, Gerwyn Price now finds himself as second favourite this week at odds of 6/1 courtesy of BetMGM.

The Welshman defeated a returning Michael van Gerwen to reach the semi-finals, where he was outclassed by Humphries.

Of course, a repeat of this clash can’t happen, suggesting that Price has a greater chance of winning the title, which could play into your darts betting strategy for this tournament

Depending on his draw, the 2021 world champion is worth backing at these odds.

While the duo top the betting market, it is Nathan Aspinall who I fancy to win the Poland Darts Masters.

At the Nordic Darts Masters last month, he finally defeated Littler, reaching the semi-finals. Last week, he once again defeated the youngster, prevailing 6-4 and made it all the way to the final.

Humphries may have triumphed, but this run will give the ‘Asp’ plenty of confidence in Gliwice to go one step further.

FIRST’s top tip for 2025 Poland Darts Masters

Pick: Nathan Aspinall to win the Poland Darts Masters – 9/1 (BetMGM)

Extra tips

Clayton wasn’t in the field for the US Darts Masters, meaning he heads to Poland fully refreshed, and more importantly, free from any jetlag.

This might sound trivial, but it could make all the difference this week. He played well alongside Price at the World Cup of Darts as Wales lost to Northern Ireland in the final.

Earlyish exits at Players Championships 18 and 19 a few weeks ago wont dampen his optimism heading into this week, especially if he manages to land a favourable draw.

Pick: Jonny Clayton to win the Poland Darts Masters – 12/1 (BetMGM)

After last week's effort at Madison Square Gardens, backing Bunting to win this week is a brave move, but I believe that result was a one off.

In the three World Series events prior to the US Darts Masters, the Englishman won the Bahrain and Nordic Darts Masters, while reaching the final in the Netherlands.

He clearly loves the format and with success in two of the four tournaments so far in 2025, Bunting will brush off his loss to Brandon in the ‘Big Apple’ last week.

Pick: Stephen Bunting to win the Poland Darts Masters – 15/2 (BetMGM)

The value picks

As with every World Series event, eight local players enter the field to take on the eight PDC stars.

Last week in the states, both Brandon and Lauby recorded massive shocks by getting the better of their more illustrious opponent, proving that the more established players can’t rest on their laurels.

There could well be a shock or two in Poland this week. Karel Sedlacek helped lead the Czech Republic to the quarter-finals of the World Cup and should he pull out Cross or Dobey in the draw, there is no denying he can reach the next round.

In terms of value, however, I am inclined to go with Krzysztof Ratajski. The Pole can use home advantage to great effect and this season, he has defeated Cross, Clayton and Aspinall.

Again, much will depend on who Ratajski is drawn against in the first round. He remains a tricky competitor who flies under the radar, but with the crowd certainly on his side, anything is possible for the 48-year-old.

Pick:  Krzysztof Ratajski to win the Poland Darts Masters – 33/1 (BetMGM)
