England Women vs Spain Women: Play your cards right with these player props
On Sunday afternoon, we’ll see a repeat of the 2023 Women’s World Cup final when England and Spain lock horns in the final of the 2025 European Championships at St, Jakob-Park in the Swiss capital of Basel. Having got the Lionesses to yet another final, can Sarina Wiegman mastermind a second straight success in this competition?
Ahead of what is an intriguing game between two teams with contrasting styles, I’ve done some digging to try and unearth a couple of viable player props. If you dare, try these for size.
Hemp to heap pressure on shaky defence
Against both Sweden and Italy, the substitutes received most of the praise, with Chloe Kelly and Michelle Agyemang providing match-winning contributions off the bench, in both the quarter-final and the semi.
However, we shouldn’t forget Lauren Hemp, who for me, is something of an unsung hero in this England team. The winger worked tirelessly, even deep into extra time, last time out, creating dangerous moments with her positive approach, and it was her superbly executed cross that ultimately allowed the Lionesses to force the extra 30 minutes.
The Man City player has only scored once in Switzerland, notching against Wales in the final group game, though it’s not as if she’s struggled to get into shooting positions, registering 11 goal attempts, which comes out as an average of 2.43 per 90 minutes. She hit the target twice against Sweden, and against the Italians, registering four shots on target in her last three appearances at this tournament.
Her ability to run in behind a high-pressing Spanish team will be key for England on Sunday, so shooting opportunities should open up for Hemp, giving her the chance to work the opposing keeper for a fourth game on the spin. All things considered, she’s worth betting on to do just that at lenient-looking odds of 5/4.
Bet: Lauren Hemp Over 0.5 Shots on Target (5/4, BetMGM)
Bronze to bring her opponents down
I also like the look of ‘Lucy Bronze Over 1.5 Fouls’ at odds of 11/10, which probably carry a little too much to ignore. Bronze is another player who has worked tirelessly during this tournament, rolling back the years to get up and down the pitch like a youngster.
The veteran full-back continues to be an all-action player, with nobody getting through more all-round work in Switzerland. Offensively, Bronze has added plenty, scoring a crucial goal against the Swedes, while she’s also got stuck in plenty.
Against a Spanish team that likes to dominate the ball, with clever wide players that put opposing full backs under lots of pressure, Bronze’s experience and defensive nous will be invaluable for Sarina Wiegman’s side, but do not be surprised if the 33-year-old sees the whistle blown in her direction. After all, she’s made more fouls than any other English player in Switzerland, averaging 2.00 fouls per 90 minutes, while she’s also made more unsuccessful challenges than anyone else in the team.
Given that she’s made eight fouls in the two knockouts games ahead of this final, odds of 11/10 look too generous to turn down, let’s be honest.
Bet: Lucy Bronze Over 1.5 Fouls (11/10, BetMGM)
