PSG state of play

PSG have been in fine form over the last few weeks, unbeaten since late November when they suffered a 1-0 loss away to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The French side have struggled in Europe so far this season, and it doesn’t get any easier this week as they host the 2023 winners.

Luis Enrique’s side received a major boost this window as they secured the signature of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli. Unfortunately, the Georgian forward won’t be registered to face Manchester City on Wednesday.

Manchester City state of play

Pep Guardiola's side are fresh from an emphatic 6-0 victory away to Ipswich in the Premier League at the weekend and will be hoping to continue that momentum into their game against PSG.

It’s been a difficult season for City and their performances in Europe have also left a lot to be desired.

But they’re starting to find their feet with a six-game unbeaten run in all competitions and will hope to continue their upward trajectory by securing three points in Paris on Wednesday.

Key talking point: Can PSG start to click in the final third?

Scoring goals in the Champions League has been a real difficulty for PSG this season, finding the back of the net just six times in the competition.

With three of those coming in one game against Red Bull Salzburg last time out, it’s safe to say it hasn’t quite clicked for them in the final third.

Manchester City have conceded 1.5 goals per game on average in Europe this campaign, so there could be an opportunity for PSG to test their leaky defence.

Injuries to Guardiola’s back line have caused City some major issues, alongside the lack of protection usually provided by Rodri, who is out for the rest of the campaign. It will be up to PSG to try and take advantage.

The likes of Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele have been constant threats for PSG domestically, but it’s time to step up and do it on the biggest stage.
