The Derby is here and Ed Quigley serves up his best bets for the Epsom Classic, as well as his other fancies on the card.

Sirona e/w - 1.00 Epsom

SIRONA is a bit of a quirky sort, but should be set for a big performance in this Group 3 assignment for the Fillies' and Mares over an extended 1m. The David Menusier-trained 5-year-old would be suited by any rain that falls, and naturally, the booking of Ryan Moore can heighten confidence of a bold show.

She was far too keen and fresh - but shaped like an individual who would improve dramatically for her seasonal reappearance at Goodwood - when she pulled her way to the front and treaded water inside the closing stages, doing well to finish fourth all things considered.

Sirona should be much more on her game this time around, and she doesn't have a great deal to find in order to land the odds - I think she's a cracking each-way selection in what is a wide-open encounter.

Blinky e/w - 2.10 Epsom

BLINKY has been in cracking form on the all-weather, notching back-to-back victories, and was arguably a little bit unlucky when beaten at Chester last time out. It is imperative on the Roodee that you get off to a good break, but that was the opposite of what had happened when handed the plum draw in stall one.

The gelding fluffed the start leaving the stalls, then was always on the back-foot playing catch-up. The way in which he picked up to rally for third suggests he is potentially still well-treated, and there is mileage in his handicap mark of 84.

This will be fast and furious, but granted no tomfoolery from the get-go this time around, Blinky could easily get in the shake-up from an each-way perspective. The cheekpieces which appear to have been a big help are retained, and a bold show can be expected from the son of Mehmas, with Cam Hardie on board the 3-year-old. Blinky is my each-way play in this encounter.

Damysus e/w - 3.30 Epsom

This year's renewal of The Derby has a wide-open feel to it, and I am not totally sold on the market protagonists. Delacroix has looked solid rather than spectacular, and The Lion In Winter has to prove himself, and there have to be stamina doubts about Ruling Court seeing out the trip.

Pride Arras won the Dante in good style and has to be respected for the Ralph Beckett team, but I think this could go the way of the horse who followed him home at York, DAMYSUS. The John and Thady Gosden runner stayed on well to cement second on the Knavesmire, and can get a lot closer to his conqueror here, stepping up in trip to 1m4f.

James Doyle is in the saddle for Wathan Racing, and improvement could easily be on the cards, now upped in distance. Of the others, I wouldn't be shocked by a big run from Midak who was supplemented for the trace, and would be a poignant winner for connections.

Don't forget Ed will be back on Tuesday as he pays attention to the action at Salisbury.
