Ted’s Treble: Thursday's selects from Newbury and Worcester 12 June

Ed 'Longshot Ted' Quigley is back with his best bets for Newbury and Worcester on Thursday 12 June. 

Newbury - 3.15PM Boubyan (2/1 Coral)

The Andrew Balding team are really hitting top gear at the moment, and they look to have major claims of landing this Class 5 Handicap over 1m with BOUBYAN. The gelding took a massive step forward for his first run as a 3-year-old after being gelded - being beaten by only half a length at Windsor last month.

He was a little unlucky on that occasion as he didn't get the clearest of runs - and the rub of the green in-running - but ran very well under the circumstances. It looked as though he enjoyed the switch to 1m and fast turf, and it is also worth noting the collateral form of that race is working out very well. With the Balding team in fine fettle, Hollie Doyle will be confident of a bold show here.

Newbury - 4.25PM Warm Spell e/w (12/1 Coral)

We have 7f Handicap action on the cards here, and this encounter has a wide-open look to it. With that in mind, I am looking at an each-way angle with WARM SPELL, who is taking his time to settle into the Loughnane yard, but has to be feared back at this venue.

A convincing winner at this track back in 2023 when trained by Roger Varian, he showed he had a touch of class on that occasion. Although he hasn't won since, there has been encouragement on what we have seen on his two starts for the current yard, most noticeably when runner-up at Doncaster after a long lay-off. He also didn't run badly when dropped back to 6f at Ascot last time out, although it all looked as though it was happening a little bit quick for him.

Back up to 7f is a massive tick in the box, and this relatively unexposed sort has the tools to be getting involved at a value price. Off a mark of 88 he is open to further improvement, and gets the nod from me in a race where you can make a case for quite a few runners.

Worcester - 6.10PM Mole Court e/w (9/1 Betway)

I am happy to take a chance on the Ben Pauling-trained MOLE COURT, who was out of sorts when last seen, but loves this venue and has an excellent record when fresh. He has won off long breaks in the past, so the 195-day absence wouldn't overly concern me. If anything, it could be a positive heading into this.

The ability for this horse to go well at the track is underlined by form figures 211, and with what should be a sound surface in his favour, a revitalised performance would be far from a major shock. Purely on Handicapping terms he is not out of the equation from an official mark of 122 - just 2lb higher than when last in the winners' enclosure.

The excellent Ben Jones is in the saddle for the Cotswold handler, and this combination look like the each-way value in what is a cracking encounter for a Thursday evening.
