WATCH | Inside the yard: David Egan and Jane Chapple-Hyam discuss their Royal Ascot runners

Jane Chapple-Hyam might not possess the battalions enjoyed by some, but she knows what it takes to saddle a Royal Ascot winner.

With three victories at the Royal meeting already to her name, the Newmarket handler will be looking to add to that tally this year when sending a team of five to Flat racing’s early summer highlight.

As it stands, the unbeaten Kon Tiki - who is due to be supplemented for the Group One Coronation Stakes - is the only single-figure priced runner from her team that will descend on the Berkshire track next week.

However, Chapple-Hyam has plundered plenty of smart races with horses at tasty prices, and there is every reason to think that could be the case again, looking at those set to represent her across the five-day jamboree.

She said: “I’m very pleased with how they have trained over the last fortnight leading into Royal Ascot.

“I’m looking forward to them running next week and we have just got to have a clean sail going into Ascot.

“I think they have all got chances and they could be one for some each-way multiples.”

Here, Jane gives us the lowdown on her five Royal Ascot runners, in her own words.

Champagne Prince - Copper Horse Stakes (25/1 Betfred)

“Champagne Prince is a good solid all-weather horse. I feel stepping him up to one mile six furlongs here will work well.

If you look back at his run in the Shergar Cup at Ascot last year over a mile and a half I think the step up in trip will suit him.

He ran a good race coming from mid-division that day and if the race had been another five yards he would have won.

My hope, and faith, is from that run is that he will get this trip. He is that bit older now and he has mentally improved. He is rated 107 on the all-weather, but 97 on the turf and I think that is a bonus for me. I believe he can fulfil a nice spot here.

I think he will be in the shake-up. I think he is a good each-way bet.”

Eskimo Pie - Queen Mary Stakes (25/1 Coral)

“Eskimo Pie will run in my mothers colours and Gordon Li, who I part own the filly with, has been a long client of mine since day one.

I’ve had a Royal Ascot winner for him with Judgethemoment in the Ascot Stakes (2009).

Gordon went in partnership with me and this is the first filly he has ever had. It is going to be fun, and my sister is over for the race meeting as well.

I know she is going to be a 50-1 shot in the Queen Mary, but she was third in a Listed race last time out and I feel she deserves to take her chance here.

I think statistics will tell you that fillies can’t win the Windsor Castle Stakes so I’m going on stats here. I think she enjoyed the five furlongs at Sandown Park in the National Stakes last time when she came third.

She came off the rail, which let the winner up, but that is fair enough and that is race riding. I feel if she had stayed on the rail she would have been second.”

Kon Tiki - Coronation Stakes

“She will be supplemented for the Coronation Stakes on Saturday morning. She has thrived since the Michael Seely Memorial Fillies’ Stakes.

She had a nice spin on the July Course with lead horse Crown Board on Friday which will put her spot on for the Coronation Stakes.

I think the York race was a really good guide line and it gives you confidence going into a race like this.

I feel she did it the hard way at York as she was drawn wide and she had to make up a lot of ground when they came into the straight, but she showed a good turn of foot.

There and then we talked about going for the Group Two Sandringham at Chantilly on French Derby day.

It just came around a little bit quick and she came in season so it made sense to give her all the time and build her up for the Coronation Stakes.

We didn’t know about Lake Victoria before making our decision to come here, that is just the way the cookie crumbles and it is just unfortunate.

I believe she could do what Saffron Beach did and I’ve got to believe so as she has shown me she has got the gears to go through from two furlongs out and the clock doesn’t lie.”

Prime Art - King Charles III Stakes (25/1 Ladbrokes)

“She ran a very promising race at Haydock Park a few weeks ago when she was second and her connections decided to supplement for this on the back of that.

I feel she will come on a hell of a lot for that as she had been off the track since September.

I had her last year and she had a little bit of a setback. Her fifth on her only start last year in the Group Three at York was a good run. She hit the front and she just faded in the last 100 yards, otherwise if she hadn’t she would have won.

At Haydock Park the other day she was all on her own out in the middle and the winner came up the standside raIl, so I felt we were at a bit of a disadvantage there.

She was already a talented filly before she joined me as she showed when she won the Group Three up in Ayr on soft ground.

When you see her she is a big mare and you would think she wants cut in the ground, but that gave us a nice surprise at Haydock Park on good to firm.

If I’m honest I think the King Charles III Stakes looks easier on paper than the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes and I think the betting suggests that as well.

I think she will fine back over five furlongs and when she hits that rising ground she will finish strong. She has been a lot easier to train this year with no setbacks.

She is a big price, but I’m sure she will run better than her odds and she worked nicely on the July Course on Wednesday.”

Salamanca - Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes

“He deserves his spot in the race the way he won the Easter Classic on All-Weather Finals Day.

He is very bold and we gelded him after the York run where he ran a little bit free early on.

I feel now that we are into our third week since that York race I’m seeing how well the gelding operation has worked on him.

David Egan is back on board, having won on him at Newcastle when he gave him a great ride. I expect him to run a really nice race.”
