Care home chef wins £20,000 jackpot after staking just £0.33

Emelda Harrison, a 59-year-old mum of one from Bedlington in Northumberland, turned 33p into a £20,000 jackpot this week at a casino in the North East. 

The woman struck gold whilst playing the Pixies of the Forest slot game at Grosvenor Casino in Newcastle whilst enjoying a night out with her son.

"I can hardly believe my luck,” claims the lucky winner. "It's been an amazing experience and such a wonderful surprise.

"I've always enjoyed visiting Grosvenor Casino Newcastle, but this win has made it even more special. I'm thrilled to have shared this moment with my son."

Harrison, who works as a chef in a local care home, erupted with joy when she turned her £0.33 spin into a £20,000 jackpot. 

Once her win was confirmed, the whole casino erupted with cheers of celebration for her. Speaking about that moment, general manager of Grosvenor Casino Newcastle, Wayne Sheekey added:

“We are thrilled for Emelda and her fantastic win. There was a buzz in the air as soon as the jackpot was hit, and we couldn’t be happier for her. The fact that this jackpot was won on a £0.33 spin makes it all the more exciting, and we hope to see this kind of extraordinary good fortune continue.” 

Harrison says she’ll save her winnings first before deciding on how to spend her huge jackpot win. 

This is not the first time someone has walked through the doors of the North-East casino and left thousands of pounds richer. 

One man last year, who preferred to remain anonymous, placed a £1 bet on the blackjack side bet game Ace King Progressive and ended up winning the jackpot which was £19,400. 

To win the jackpot from the £1 bet, the player and dealer must both draw a blackjack match of holding the Ace and King of the same suit. 

The winner said at the time “To be honest, the feeling of winning still hasn’t sunk in, I’m still on cloud nine. The win has come at the right time as I was hoping to take the family (the wife and my daughter) away on holiday and with the money, I can do just that.” 

Sheekey added at the time of that payout: “A massive congratulations to our lucky winner. He’s been a regular at the casino for some time so it’s amazing to see a jackpot come his way. We look forward to seeing pictures of his holiday when he next visits the casino.”
