Gordon Moody announces International Gambling Harms Awareness Day 2025

UK-based charity Gordon Moody has launched International Gambling Harms Awareness Day, which is set to take place on 26 March.
The day is aiming to reduce stigma, encourage conversations, and provide access to support networks, for those who are struggling with gambling-related issues.

Focused on the theme of #behindthebet, this year’s campaign looks at the often-overlooked emotional, financial and social consequences of gambling harm.
An important objective of the initiative is to highlight the often hidden nature of gambling issues, with many people choosing to suffer in silence in fear of judgement and lack of resources available.
By sharing stories, resources and expert insights, the campaign looks to emphasise the reality of gambling addiction, and show that extends far beyond just monetary loss.
Gordon Moody’s efforts are directed towards creating a more supportive and open environment, helping those struggling understand that they are not alone.
This comes at a time where the charity has put an increased focus on supporting those that have suffered with gambling harm.
In late 2024, the organisation had opened its first residential treatment centre in Redditch, which offered specialised therapy and rehabilitation programmes.
Alongside this, Gordon Moody launched a Gambling Support First Aid training programme, which aimed to provide individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to recognise gambling problems within friends and family.
This training, which could be sought out online or face-to-face, was a two-day course available to anyone over the age of 18.
According to NHS reports from between April 2024 and September 2024, NHS gambling clinics have experienced a 130% rise in referrals, which has led to a large increase in support locations.
The escalation in cases is believed to be down to the increased availability of gambling platforms, but also the recognition of gambling as a serious mental health issue.
There have been changes to legislation in 2025 to try to ensure that there is better placed support for those at risk, including financial risk checks for people who have net deposits of £150+ over 30 days.
This comes alongside a ban on auto play features, with remote game design requirements that include a five-second minimum game speed, as well as a mandatory levy on all gambling operators to fund research, prevention and treatment of gambling related harms.
The levy is expected to generate over £100m annually.
There are multiple ways you can get involved to support the campaign, you can visit the Gordon Moody website, download the assets provided, and share them across your network.
You can also post on social media using #behindthebet, #GamblingHarmsAwareness and #GordonMoody, or donate to the charity to show your support.
