Gordon Moody, a gambling harms charity which provides help and support for those who are suffering from gambling addiction, has recently announced a partnership for a short film about gambling addiction called Terminal. Another company called No Trace also helped to produce the film.

Terminal tells the story of Rav – a young British South-Asian played by actor Jaz Singh Deol – who is battling an addiction to fixed odds betting terminals (FOBTs).

FOBTs first began to appear in betting shops towards the end of the 20th century and have grown increasingly popular over the years. Between 70% - 80% of FOBT sessions result in a net loss for the player, highlighting just how dangerous and out of control they can become once addicted.

Rav experiences the psychological and emotional toll on his relationships during the film, while his mental health steadily worsens along with worries regarding his future.

The partnership will be aiming to provide plenty of support to those in society who suffer from any form of gambling addiction, while raising awareness of just how devastating this can be. Not only for the person, but for family members and friends too.

“We are thrilled to partner with Terminal to help shine a light on the challenges faced by individuals living with gambling harm, particularly within the British South-Asian community,” said CEO of Gordon Moody, Monica Shafaq, on the partnership.

“This powerful film provides a much-needed narrative that speaks to the heart of the issue, allowing us to reach new audiences and foster a deeper understanding of the realities of gambling related harm and the stigma faced by many which prevents them from reaching out for help.”

Jaz Singh Deol highlighted his commitment to Terminal’s message: “Portraying a character who develops and struggles with gambling addiction was both challenging and deeply meaningful.

“Preparing for the role has opened my eyes to an issue that affects millions, yet remains largely invisible. I hope this film helps break the stigma around addiction and encourages more people to seek help.

“It’s been an honour to bring this important story to life and to collaborate with Gordon Moody”.

This news comes just a week after Gordon Moody announced former Premier League striker Dean Sturridge as a brand ambassador.

The Englishman played for Derby County, Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the top flight, but struggled with a serious gambling addiction throughout his career.

After five and a half years in recovery, he is hoping his new position as ambassador for the company will allow him to help others who are going down a similar path.

Gordon Moody will be hosting an exclusive media screening and private discussion in the Birmingham Odeon Cinema on Thursday 10 April at 2pm.

Members of the media are invited to attend the screening of the powerful short film, with the panel discussion happening straight after.

This will feature writer/director Sunny Bahia, Jaz Singh Deol, Monica Shafaq, Dean Sturridge and Tracy Page. The latter of which has completed residential care at Gordon Moody recently and has lived experience with FOBTs.
