Jamie Vardy on the move: Where next for Leicester City legend?

Jamie Vardy will leave Leicester City as a legend and the Premier League’s oldest-ever Golden Boot winner, despite the Foxes falling into the Championship for the 2025/26 season.

The 38-year-old leaves the King Power Stadium having helped the club to promotion from England’s second tier twice and having played a major part in their greatest success – Leicester’s legendary Premier League triumph against all odds in 2015/16.

Described as Leicester’s “greatest ever player” by the club themselves, their number nine helped secure other honours such as the FA Cup and subsequent Community Shield.

However, after 13 years in the East Midlands, Vardy has opted to move onto pastures new. But where is the veteran forward heading in order to continue his career?

Nearly a decade ago, Leicester City winning the Premier League was simply unthinkable at odds of 5000/1 at the start of the season. Now in North Wales, the third-oldest professional association football team in the world are trying to create their own fairytale.

After back-to-back-to-back promotions from the National League to the Championship, Wrexham (2/1) are considered the favourites to capture Vardy’s signature. The Red Dragons, like the veteran forward, are aiming to go from rags to riches and their ‘project’ may appeal despite Vardy potentially facing off against the Foxes next season.

Having spent part of his youth career with the club he supported, Sheffield Wednesday (8/1), a return to Hillsborough may be on the cards for ‘Vards’. However, signing for the Owls is as likely as a move to America or to Scotland according to the bookies.

Any Major League Soccer Club (8/1) could provide a glamorous lifestyle for the veteran Vardy and his family, with wages presumably not a stumbling block. Any Scottish Club (8/1) essentially means either side of the Old Firm trying to convince the 38-year-old into a move north of the border as they’ll be the only teams able to meet his demands.

Leeds (20/1) and Burnley (20/1) recently sealed their promotion to the Premier League and would therefore provide the former England international with the chance to stay in the top tier for the 2025/26 campaign.

Sheffield United (20/1) are hoping to join them via the playoffs, after missing out on automatic promotion, but a move to Bramall Lane seems highly unlikely given Vardy’s childhood loyalties.

Stoke City (20/1) are the same price as two guaranteed Premier League sides and the Blades who hope to join them, but they’ll be playing Championship football next season like the aforementioned Wrexham and Leicester City.

West Brom (22/1) missed out on the Championship playoffs and may turn to Vardy’s experience to get them over the line next season.

A whole host of Championship clubs such as Hull City, Norwich City, Blackburn Rovers and relegated duo Southampton and Ipswich Town are priced at 25/1.

Luton Town, scrapping for survival in the second tier, are a similar price but presumably won’t be if they drop into League 1.

Moves to France, Germany, Italy and Spain (all 25/1) are deemed as likely as Vardy playing Championship football for a club that isn’t Leicester.
