Jonathan David next club odds: Juventus in pole position to sign forward
The list of strikers in search of new clubs is growing lengthier by the day and includes former Lille forward Jonathan David.
The Canadian is set to depart the Ligue 1 club after five years in the French top-flight following the expiry of his contract.
Having found the net 25 times in all competitions last term, there are already plenty of potential suitors vying to land his signature and add a new number nine to their ranks.
Juventus - 4/5
Italian giants Juventus are currently strong favourites with BetVictor to sign David, with recent reports suggesting the club are more than eager to bring him to the Allianz Arena.
However, the commission demanded by David’s agent could prove a major stumbling block, even though the player himself is said to be happy to sign with the Turin club.
A new schedule of talks are reported to be taking place over the coming days as the 36-time Serie A winners look to finally get their man.
However, the longer it takes for a resolution to be found will only encourage the rest of his admirers that there may be another twist in the saga yet.
Fenerbahce - 5/1
One of the clubs waiting in the wings are Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce.
The club are reported to have made a ‘substantial offer’ to the player, which includes a three-year contract and a package totalling an amount in the region of £15.8million.
However, the player’s entourage are said to have requested more time to consider other proposals on the table, which are likely to include the possibility of signing with the aforementioned Juventus.
This perhaps explains why Fenerbahce come in as wide as 5/1 with both Ladbrokes and Coral.
Inter Milan - 6/1
Juventus aren’t the only Italian side interested in bringing in David for next season. Champions League finalists Inter Milan are also said to be sniffing around, though they are fairly distant outsiders at 6/1 with Ladbrokes.
With Mehdi Taremi set to leave in the summer and Marko Arnautovic’s contract expiring, the Italian giants are looking to strengthen in forward areas.
Still, the San Siro club are reportedly unwilling to meet David’s high wage demands and so are unlikely to be a major player in the transfer saga at this stage.
Any Saudi team - 8/1
Unsurprisingly, the Saudi Pro League emerged as a possible destination once it became clear David would be departing the French top-flight.
Initial reports suggested the Canadian was ‘seriously considering’ making the switch to the Middle East, with Al-Ahli the Saudi club most likely to sign him.
Those rumours have since cooled though given the acceleration in talks with Juventus, but should that move fall apart, it would be hard to envisage the Saudi Pro League sitting on their hands for very long.
