Punter nets nearly £30,000 from £10 football accumulator

One lucky punter has turned a £10 bet into £29,900, with the Ladbrokes bookmaker, after correctly predicting the score across four European top-flight games.

The four-way accumulator took the anonymous bettor across four countries: The Netherlands, France, Italy and Portugal. While most of the predictions settled comfortably, the acca needed a last-ditch penalty winner for Monaco two minutes from time to secure the winnings.

The punter’s accumulator only consisted of four bets, although it managed to cover most of the European continent and required that the player accurately predict four scores to win the sizable jackpot.

Impressively, the first three bets were relatively comfortable. PSV Eindhoven secured a dominant 3-0 victory over RKC Waalwijk in Eredivisie.

Goals from Ivan Perisic, Noa Lang and Luuk de Jong, not only secured the points but, combined with results in other games, the third successive victory saw second-placed PSV close the gap over league leaders Ajax to six points.

Porto dispatched AVS in Portugal’s Primeira Liga. Goals from Fabio Vieira and Rodrigo Mora meant that the winning punter correctly predicted the 2-0 outcome: especially impressive considering Porto’s wildly unpredictable form this season.

The two-time Champions League winners currently sit third in the league, equal on points with fourth-placed Braga, and behind Sporting Lisbon and Benfica.

Meanwhile, in Italy, the lucky gambler correctly predicted a 1-0 win for 11th-placed Torino over Empoli, who currently sit in the relegation zone in 18th position.  Nikola Vlasic scored the only goal of the game.

The fourth game in the accumulator came closer to the wire, however. Monaco and Angers were heading towards a goalless draw in Saturday’s French Ligue 1 match until, in the 77th minute, Mika Biereth found the back of the net for Monaco. And, with 2 minutes of the game remaining, Maghnes Akliouche scored from the spot to record the required 2-0 victory.

The four-way correct score accumulator attracted odds of 2,990-1 which meant a £29,900 return from the punter’s original £10 stake.

The acca was placed with Ladbrokes and Cal Gildart of the UK-based bookie said: “Four countries. Four correct scores. This is some bet!” before going on to add: “Congratulations to our customer, who may or may not be plotting a celebratory four-stop multi-city break that starts in Eindhoven and ends in Monaco!”

Accumulators represent an effective way of significantly increasing odds, and Ladbrokes, founded in 1886, has had its fair share of winning accas, even this season.

In September, it was reported that one customer placed a £20 bet on one accumulator. In that instance, the punter placed a 10-way accumulator and predicted the outcome, but not the correct scores, of 10 matches across the English top four leagues.

The only nervous moment likely came when Notts County went 1-0 down to Swindon before turning it around and grabbing an 80th-minute winner.

The player took advantage of Ladbrokes Odds Boost, adding £14,000 to the final prize, which meant they walked away with a total pot of £63,010.48 from a £20 bet.
