Leicester City released a statement on Thursday 21 November stating that they will not be impacted by the decision made by the Curacao courts, on behalf of their sponsor BC.Game’s bankruptcy claim.
BC.Game has sponsored Leicester City since July, having signed a two-year sponsorship deal with the Premier League team and being front and centre of the teams’ football shirts. At the time, the deal was reportedly worth £30m.
However, despite the news, the football club has announced that they won’t be affected by the bankruptcy and that the crypto casino will continue its operations. The club states that it is a “legal matter” rather than one of financial insolvency.
The Curacao Chronicle announced that the Foundation for Representation of Victims of Online Gambling (known as SBGOK in Curacao) filed bankruptcy petitions against the former and current parent companies of BC.Game, Small House and Blockdance, over lost funds relating to the handover between the companies in April 2024.
The regulatory obligations not met referred to two significant losses from players of £1.1m and £530,000. BC.Games have released a response saying that they plan to appeal the verdict.
Their statement read: “We strongly disagree with the court’s latest rulings and we will spare no expenses to appeal this erroneous judgement, which failed to give due consideration to facts. We are confident that justice will ultimately prevail. We are concerned with the latest court ruling as it sends a strong message to legitimate operators based in Curacao.”
A Leicester City spokesperson said: “We have been and continue to be in regular discussions with BC.Game with regard to an active legal case in Curaçao. BC.Game have provided the club with the strongest assurances that they are actively appealing this case and that the process which has been initiated in Curaçao is administrative in nature and has not arisen due to any concerns with their financial standing.
“BC.Game has further assured us that they have no issues with liquidity and that they remain fully committed to meeting their ongoing contractual and financial obligations, including to the club and that this case will not impact on BC.Game’s continuing international operations.”
