Tyson vs Paul: The most bet-on combat event in Entain history

Entain have revealed that the boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul was the most bet-on combat event in their history.

Despite the bookies making eventual winner Jake Paul the favourite, the punters favoured all-time boxing legend and former heavyweight world champion, Mike Tyson.

Netflix revealed that, at its peak, 65 million households tuned in all over the world to watch this fight.

Entain owns several operators including: Coral, BetMGM, Ladbrokes, Eurobet and more. The company found that an impressive 68% of bettors placed a wager on Tyson to win, with just 17% of Entain customers betting in favour of Paul.

Despite the 31-year age difference between the two boxers, of those 68% in favour of Iron Mike the most common method of predicted victory was via knockout.

For the bout in Arlington, Texas, that went ahead on 15 November, Paul is said to have made $40m (£32m), while Iron Mike is said to have been paid around $20m.

The previous record made for the most number of bets through Entain brands was the Tyson Fury vs Oleksander Usyk fight in May 2024.

Managing director for sports at Entain, Greg Ferris, commented: “Our trading desks are always ready for an increase in interest from a ‘celebrity’ type fighter, but the impact of Netflix broadcasting this fight can’t be overlooked. Their large subscriber base, promotion and the decision to offer to existing customers at no additional cost saw record numbers of viewers.

“Putting these two in a ring attracted fans from both sides of the fence, creating a rare crossover event. With the odds also relatively close, a whole raft of new bettors flocked to back their favourites making this the most bet-on fight in our history.”
