Liverpool transfer odds: Isak most likely to join out of forward targets

Despite seemingly being set to smash the British transfer record with the £116million signing of Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, the Anfield club clearly aren’t prepared to sit back and rely on the team that won last season’s Premier League at a canter.

According to reports, Arne Slot has identified Newcastle’s Alexander Isak as his dream signing and, as a result, the powers that be are preparing an estimated £150m bid for the Swedish international. Such is their interest that bookmakers price Isak at 9/4 to join the Merseyside outfit.

Although the player has also drawn interest from Arsenal, it seems unlikely the London club will have the same financial clout to compete with league winners Liverpool.

Isak joined Newcastle in 2022. The player was signed for £63m from Real Sociedad, where his form blew somewhat hot and cold. Eyebrows were raised at the size of a deal for a largely unproven striker, but in his three years at the Magpies, he has scored 62 goals in 109 games, scoring 20 goals or more in two of those seasons.

He has become one of the league’s most coveted strikers, and his consistent performances in England have seen his price tag increase substantially.

Despite having already shelled out a fortune this summer, Liverpool have been linked with a host of other players.

Hugo Ekitike (5/2)

With Liverpool clearly keen on bringing in a new striker, one name that has been mentioned is Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike. Valued at around £85m, he would be a less expensive alternative to Isak, but the price tag is still hefty considering last season was only the second season he hit double digits for goals scored. According to bookmakers, it looks likely to be a battle between Man Utd (7/4) and Liverpool (5/2), for his signature.

Christopher Nkunku (9/2)

A somewhat surprising name to be mentioned is that of Christopher Nkunku. Nkunku only made nine starts this season but has attracted interest from Newcastle (5/1), Tottenham (9/2), and Bayern Munich (9/4), as well as Liverpool (9/2). He would be available for around £50m but the German outfit are favourites to grab his signature as things stand.

Benjamin Sesko (7/1)

One player whose name has done the rounds a lot this transfer window, already, is Benjamin Sesko. The RB Leipzig striker has apparently agreed personal terms with Arsenal (1/5), but the London club have yet to agree to a fee. It is believed that Leipzig intend to hold out for a figure north of £60m after the striker scored 21 goals in all competitions last season. According to bookmakers, Sesko is as likely to join any Saudi team (7/1) as he is to join Liverpool (7/1).

Mohammed Kudus (7/1)

Liverpool have been linked with West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus since April last year, with reports the Anfield club were willing to meet the player’s £85m release clause to grab him. The deal didn’t materialise, but rumours suggest they may be willing to pick up their interest again this year. However, they face stiff competition from Chelsea (11/10), Newcastle (7/2), Tottenham (4/1), and Arsenal (5/1) to land the Ghanaian national.
