Manchester United odds on to sign Mbeumo as transfer window reopens
The summer’s transfer window has reopened, bringing the usual combination of hope and rumours.
A lot of Premier League clubs already conducted business at the beginning of the month, during the mini transfer window in place during the lead-up to the Club World Cup.
Despite not playing in the tournament, Manchester United took advantage, to secure their first deal of the summer, paying £62.5million to take Mattheus Cunha from Wolves.
With the window now open once again, multiple players have been reported as being on the Red Devils’ radar.
Bryan Mbeumo (4/9)
United started their pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo at the beginning of the month but saw at least one £60m bid rejected.
Bookmakers, and many pundits, believe the Old Trafford club will return with a higher bid to lure the Cameroonian player.
Although Mbeumo has previously expressed his desire to play for United, former coach Thomas Frank’s move to Tottenham Hotspur, and their promise of European football, may be enough to scupper the deal.
Emiliano Martinez (1/1)
United coach Ruben Amorim may have lost faith in current goalkeeper Andre Onana. Emiliano Martinez, currently plying his trade at Aston Villa, has replaced his agent, allegedly to help secure a move away.
Insiders claim Martinez is Amorim’s preferred option, but only if Onana moves on during the summer.
Reports state that United want £50m for the Cameroonian shot-stopper and it is unlikely too many clubs will be lining up for his signature at that price.
Hugo Ekitike (7/4)
Hugo Ekitike, of Eintracht Frankfurt, said in an interview last year that he had “always admired them” and reports claim United have made a direct approach to the player’s agent.
Viktor Gyokeres (5/1)
The Victor Gyokeres transfer saga has had its share of twists already this season. Despite an alleged “gentleman’s agreement” to let the Swede leave for less than his £68m release clause, Sporting’s decision makers have denied the claims, angering the striker.
And, despite Arsenal emerging as favourites to gain his signature, it is reported that Sporting’s decision has also irked the Gunners, putting United back in the frame.
Victor Osimhen (6/1)
Another winding transfer saga that allegedly involves United, at least in some capacity, is that of Victor Osimhen.
The Napoli striker was frozen out of the squad last season, by manager Antonio Conte. Having already turned down one big-money offer from the Middle East, it has been reported that Al-Hilal are preparing to offer him more than £40m a year to change his mind.
Even if he rejects that offer, United would presumably have to sell before they could afford a deal so it looks a long shot.
Eberechi Eze (14/1)
After Eberechi Eze’s last game for England, United legends Dwight Yorke and Paul Scholes both urged coach Amorim to sign the 26-year-old from Aston Villa.
However, Spurs are current favourites to land the English star, although that may depend on whether they secure the signing of Mbeumo. Eze to United is still considered a long shot.
