F1 title odds: UK bookies update Norris and Piastri prices after collision
On lap 67 of the Canadian Grand Prix, Lando Norris saw an opportunity to overtake his McLaren teammate and driver’s championship rival, Oscar Piastri.
After a surprise move by the Englishman at the turn 10 hairpin, both drivers sped towards turn 13 and 14. Australia’s Piastri was braver on the brakes and, as a result, maintained his lead down the start-finish straight.

Norris, eager to place a marker down in the title race, shifted to the left-hand side of the track in a bid to snatch P4 at the first turn. The Bristolian’s front-wing clipped Piastri’s rear tyre and immediately snapped. For the championship’s second-placed driver, the race was over.
Piastri now holds a 22-point lead over Norris, with two weeks until the ever-eventful Austrian Grand Prix.
While that gap may appear surmountable on paper — with less than one race win separating the pair — Norris has seen his Formula 1 driver’s championship odds fall off a cliff at the UK’s best bookmakers.
For example, he had been priced by bet365 at 13/8 to achieve championship glory in the lead-up to the Spanish Grand Prix. Now, the 25-year-old sits at 3/1.
On the other side of the coin, bet365, William Hill and Paddy Power each list Piastri at 1/2 to end the season in first.
But, if anyone thought Norris’ mental state would deteriorate in the aftermath of a disastrous result, his post-race apology demonstrated a strong-minded willingness to accept wrongdoing: "No one to blame but myself, so I apologise to the whole team and to Oscar as well for attempting something probably a bit too silly.”
Even in the car, Norris expressed regret for attempting a “stupid” move: "I'm sorry. All my bad. All my fault. Stupid from me."
If Norris’ deficit to Piastri can be overcome, then the same must be said for Max Verstappen’s 22-point gap to this year’s Monaco Grand Prix winner.
The Dutchman came home in P2 on Sunday – and thus saw his odds for a fifth straight driver’s championship title shoot to 5/1 with BetMGM and bet365.
However, Verstappen’s race did not end without controversy – as he adjudged Mercedes’ George Russell to have “suddenly just aggressively braked” under the safety car that had been brought out while marshalls cleared Norris’ car from the track.
In turn, Verstappen drove ahead of the eventual race winner, Russell; an illegal maneuver while the safety car is active.
Verstappen’s employers, Red Bull, launched an appeal against Russell’s victory – claiming that he drove erratically during the safety car.
That protest was thrown out by the FIA stewards after a five-hour investigation. For Russell and Mercedes, this confirmed a debut win in 2025.
And, in the midst of this potential pivotal result, George Russell’s odds for the championship now range between 34/1 (Betfair) and 50/1 (Betfred).
He is 62 points adrift of Piastri and followed on the driver’s standings by Charles Leclerc (150/1), Lewis Hamilton (500/1) and Kimi Antonelli (500/1). All odds courtesy of bet365.
