Alfred Dunhill Championship betting tips: Oosthuizen looking to go back-to-back at Leopard Creek
Alfred Dunhill Championship: Things to consider
It's the penultimate event of the calendar year and part of the 2025 DP World Tour's ‘opening swing’ as the Alfred Dunhill Championship tournament takes centre stage at Leopard Creek Country Club. Golf fans around the world are lucky to be seeing two of South Africa's finest courses two weeks in succession.
The Nedbank Championship at the Gary Player Country Club was a tough test last week and it was Johannes Veerman who came out on top with a return to form. The winning total was just 5-under par.

Last year the Alfred Dunhill Championship was won by South African favourite Louis Oosthuizen who pipped long-time friend Charl Schwartzel in a Sunday duel.
South African journeyman Ockie Strydom was the winner in 2022 while Christiaan Bezuidenhout took the honours in the previous edition of the tournament in 2020. There's a strong theme down the years at Leopard Creek of strong drivers and home players doing well.
This year’s Alfred Dunhill Championship sees a prize fund of €1.5m (£1.24m) and there are 3,000 Race to Dubai points on offer. Unfortunately, we won't get to see the late Harry the Hippo this year - who lives on the 16th tee.
Alfred Dunhill Championship: Top of the market
Most of South Africa’s finest players will be reuniting and teeing it up at Leopard Creek golf course, which is one of the finest and most scenic courses in the world, situated beside the Kruger National Park and surrounded by the Crocodile River.
Leading the market is South African stalwart Louis Oosthuizen at 9/1 with Skybet with compatriot Charl Schwartzel at 25/1 with Paddy Power.
While the likes of Thriston Lawrence - now South Africa’s highest-ranked golfer – and some other new South African stars like Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Dean Burmester are right up there with them.
Oosthuizen and Schwartzel both have stellar records at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and have been playing well on the LIV golf tour. The former had a strong season on the LIV tour last year finishing 4th in driving accuracy and 2nd in both the putting average and scrambling statistics. The South African finished top 10 in the LIV golf money list.
When he won the Alfred Dunhill Championship last year, Oosthuizen went on to win the Mauritius Open the following week. He’s looking to go back-to-back again in a slightly different way:
“I’ve never gone back-to-back in my life before, so it’s a big dream to be able to do that and then having my family with me for the first time when I’ve won in my career is very special.” said Oosthuizen.
As well as winning the Alfred Dunhill Championship in 2020, Christiaan Bezuidenhout (10/1 Skybet) was also third last year behind Oosthuizen and Schwartzel. Dean Burmester finished top 25 in the PIF Saudi International last week and he was a brilliant winner at Doral earlier in the LIV golf tour season.
Schwartzel missed the cut at the Saudi International but Schwartzel holds the record for the most Alfred Dunhill Championship titles with his four victories and the South African is the tournament record holder with a score of 24-under. He won by 12 strokes in 2012.
Only Schwartzel and Pablo Martin have won back-to-back Alfred Dunhill Championships. Major champion Oosthuizen is looking to become the third player to do so this week. He declared how excited he is for the week ahead:
“I’m looking forward to returning to Leopard Creek for the Alfred Dunhill Championship, which is one of the most special weeks in golf. I have always loved the golf course and after twice finishing runner-up in the tournament I was delighted to win last year,”
“The Alfred Dunhill Championship is one of those tournaments I always wanted to win and to finally do so was very special. It’s a tournament I never want to miss, especially at this point in my career, because it combines my love for Leopard Creek and my love for the bush and the spectacular wildlife, we are privileged to enjoy that week.”
Brandon Stone (33/1 Skybet) blitzed the field by seven strokes at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in 2017. Stone has been a man struggling for confidence and has questioned whether he belonged in the top echelons of the game.
This is hard to fathom coming from a guy of that calibre. Stone has started to put those thoughts behind him now while eyeing up some final day leads again. The South African has finished in the top 20 in his last five events.
FIRST’s top tip for the Alfred Dunhill Championship
Louis Oosthuizen is a justified favourite for this event and it’s worth backing him for the outright win at a shorter price of (9/1 with Skybet) off the back of a top 20 finish (at 15-under) in the PIF Saudi International.
Extra tips
If we back Christian Bezuidenhout (10/1 with Skybet) to win the tournament with the same stake as Louis Oosthuizen we will get a return of just over 4/1 on our outlay if either of them win (this is called a Dutch bet).
Brandon Stone’s recent form with an average finishing position of around 14th from his last five events, combined with his strong course fit makes him a decent bet also (at 33/1 each way with Skybet).
Alfred Dunhill Championship: Value bets
Casey Jarvis (70/1 with Betfred) didn’t make it into the Nedbank field but he is one to watch at Leopard Creek. I said last week that the South African prodigy finished in the top 25 at the Gary Player Country Club in the South African Open in 2020 winning low amateur honours at the time. Jarvis was also 7th here at the Alfred Dunhill Championship last year.
Ockie Strydom won the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek in 2022 and he performed well at the Nedbank Golf Challenge last week finishing t6.
Jayden Schaper could be the value player of the shorter prices, though, at 33/1 (bet365). Schaper has form at the Alfred Dunhill Championship. He was t7 last year and finished joint runner-up in 2020.
He is in form after finishing in the top 20 in the PIF Saudi International and has had some recent good outings, including a top 20 at the Andalucia Masters and a top 10 at the Open de Espana.
Two other names that stand out from the Alfred Dunhill Championship outsiders are Trevor Fisher Jr. who is a bit of an enigma, and Wildo Nienaber - the same could be said for the rising South African star - who is one of the longest hitters around.
FIRST’s top value tips for the Alfred Dunhill Championship
Jayden Schaper’s course and current form record make him stand out. Back him at 33/1 each way with bet365.
Casey Jarvis also stands out at 70/1 each way with Betfred given his potential.
Ockie Strydom looks some value for a top 10 finish at (9/1 with Betfred) while Nienaber is also 17/2 with Betfred for a top 10.
A bold bet, Trevor Fisher Jr. was recently third in the South African PGA and you can back him at (500/1 each way or 10/1 for the top 20 with bet365).
Odds correct at the time of writing.
