AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open betting tips: Who will be named king of the DP World Tour’s opening swing?
Mauritius Open: Things to consider
The ‘opening swing’ closes out the 2024 calendar year on the DP World Tour but a decent field still lines up at Mont Choisy Le Golf, Grand Baie, in Mauritius for the Mauritius Open. The last time we saw this course in action was two years ago when Frenchman Antoine Rozner romped home to victory by five strokes.
So far the ‘opening swing’ has thrown up some unpredictable results with tough conditions partly to blame. This time last year Louis Oosthuizen went back-to-back winning both the Alfred Dunhill Championship and the Mauritius Open, but Oosthuizen missed the cut at Leopard Creek Country Club last week and so did another favourite, Thriston Lawrence.

The week before that a score of just 5-under par was enough to see Joannes Veerman take down the Nedbank Challenge at the Gary Player Country Club.
Kurt Kitayama, Rasmus Hojgaard and Dylan Frittelli are other big names to win the Mauritius Open in recent years and in 2024 there will be 3,000 ‘Race to Dubai’ points on offer as well as a prize fund of $1.5m (£1.19m).
Mauritius Open: Top of the market
The spectacular Mont Choisy Le Golf will boast a mixed field of Sunshine Tour and DP World Tour players. Last week we saw a great winner at the Alfred Dunhill Championship as South African stalwart Shaun Norris came from six behind to bank his second DP World Tour title.
Norris doesn’t tee it up in Mauritius and it is Frenchman Antoine Rozner leading the betting market at 15/2 with BetMGM.
Players will be playing with the double incentive of Mauritius Open glory as well as a host of opportunities that open up to the winner of the 2025 DP World Tour’s opening swing, which forms the first section of the DP World Tour’s 2025 ‘Race to Dubai’.
John Parry is one of the form men in the field and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by bookmakers in terms of tournament betting odds. Parry has had a resurgence over the last couple of years winning three times on the Challenge Tour.
He comes to Mauritius with a progressive form line of t20-t9-t8-missed cut-t2 and is the third favourite for the Mauritius Open with bet365.
The Mauritius Open will crown the King of the ‘opening swing’ and the winner will benefit from all the perks that come with it winning it. This includes a $200,000 (£160,000) bonus as well as an exemption into the DP World Tour’s next Rolex Series tournament and some of the tour’s bigger events boasting bigger prize pools. This as well as even more ‘Race to Dubai’ points on offer.
Mont Choisy golf course has been described as a paradise on open pristine terrain featuring lots of water trouble. As always in these events the wind and weather will dictate the winning score so we will be looking strongly at the in-form players.
Young guns like Angel Ayora, Martin Couvra and Ryan van Velzen all impressed at Leopard Creek. Mont Choisy is a short course at just over 7,000 yards playing to a par 72.
Angel Ayora’s numbers are particularly impressive with a recent win on the Challenge Tour backed up by two second-place finishes and a top six in Australia.
The Spaniard looked particularly assured around Leopard Creek last week en route to another top-five finish. He was ‘Seve-esque’ around the greens.
Gavin Green and Richard Mansell are next in the betting at 22’s with bet365 and I might argue against backing these two if the weather forecast is for higher winds.
Jayden Schaper at 25/1 with bet365 had also been playing well but missed the cut at the Alfred Dunhill Championship on a score of 8-over par. Schaper was sixth in this event last year albeit on a different course. He finished in the top 10 in 2022 at Mont Choisy.
FIRST’s top tip for the Mauritius Open
It may pay to stick with the front runners this week and John Parry is the form man in the field right now. He can be backed to win the Mauritius Open at 18/1 each way with BetMGM.
Extra tips
Angel Ayora’s recent numbers are seriously impressive and he looked in great nick last week at Leopard Creek. Back him each way at 16/1 with BetMGM to win the tournament.
Mauritius Open: Value bets
Wenyi Ding has been a name on many people’s lips during the 2025 ‘Race to Dubai’ opening swing and he hasn’t really let us down.
The Chinese star has put in some strong performances with a top-five finish in Australia followed by a t40 at the Nedbank and he posted another top 25 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship having been in contention after 54 holes. He may be one to consider at 33/1 (BetMGM).
Matthew Southgate got himself into the Mauritius Open field following a strong performance at Leopard Creek. Unfortunately for Southgate, a final round of 1-over par slid him down to a t11 finish.
That’s the third top 20 in a row for Southgate who is also a strong links and wind player who will like if it blows in Mauritius. He was 14th here two years ago where he was second in the approach stats.
It was a similar story for Casey Jarvis who has been a name I have been keen to have onside throughout the opening swing. Jarvis was derailed by a seven at the par 3 7th hole. He bounced back strongly but it wasn’t enough to secure a top-10 finish.
Marcel Siem is an interesting name this week given his attachment with the Heritage Club in Mauritius. Siem of course bounced back into the winners’ circle at the Italian Open this year. The German finished in the top 20 two years ago in the Mauritius Open at Mont Choisy Le Golf.
FIRST’s top value tips for the Mauritius Open
Matthew Southgate has the course and current form concoction ahead of this year’s Mauritius Open.
Back him to win the tournament at 33/1 each way with bet365. Casey Jarvis has just been struggling to put four rounds together, but he is in top form.
The South African is available this week at 33/1 each way with BetMGM. One from left field might just be Marcel Siem looking to finish a good season on a high note and he might be the best value play each way at 70/1 with Betfred and Paddy Power.
Odds correct at the time of writing.
