Nigel Farage is the new favourite to become the next UK Prime Minister, according to one of the UK’s biggest bookmakers.

Farage, who currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Clacton and leader of political party Reform UK, was elected as an MP for the first time in his career on July 4, 2024.

And this week, major UK bookmaker Ladbrokes has installed Farage as the betting favourite to become the UK’s next Prime Minister after current incumbent Sir Keir Starmer.

Newly elected Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch previously headed the betting, but has now been leapfrogged by Farage, with the odds on the former UKIP leader shortening to 5/2, while Badenoch remains a 3/1 shot.

Other notables on the list include Labour’s Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and Health Secretary Wes Streeting, who are priced at 6/1 and 10/1, respectively, while former Prime Minister Boris Johnson is next in the betting, at 14/1.

Among the rank outsiders on Ladbrokes’ list is the UK’s most recent former PM, with Rishi Sunak listed as a 66/1 shot to make an unlikely return to office after Starmer.

Ladbrokes announced the market move via their X account, stating, “And for the first time, Nigel Farage now heads the betting to become next Prime Minister.”

The move is linked to a surge in betting support for Farage’s Reform UK in the next UK General Election.

During the last General Election, won by Labour, there was a national wave of support for Reform UK, the right-leaning vote being split across the country and costing the Tories a host of crucial seats. Labour were the main beneficiaries as they romped to a landslide victory, but the bigger picture showed a significant voter shift from Conservative to Reform UK.

That swing has continued since the election, as punters have continued to back Reform – formerly named the Brexit Party – for an even stronger showing in the UK’s next General Election.

Reform opened up as a 16/1 shot to win the most seats at the next General election, but have since been backed all the way in, to 9/4. In terms of their standing in the betting, Reform remain third out of the four major parties but are now much closer to the Conservatives (6/4) and current incumbents Labour (7/4) in the betting.
