Club World Cup top scorer odds: Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane among favourites
The FIFA Club World Cup kicks off at the weekend. The tournament has been revamped with the expanded format now featuring 32 teams from across six football confederations.
The tournament lasts a month and is being co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich are among the favourites to win the tournament, which would see the victorious club pick up nearly £100million in prize money – especially beneficial against the backdrop of financial fair play regulations.
Real Madrid are current favourites to lift the trophy, at 4/1. Despite finishing second to Barcelona in La Liga this year, not only do they have an unerring knack of picking up European and international trophies, but they hold the record for the most Club World Cup wins, with five.
After securing the UEFA Champions League thanks to a more unified team spirit, PSG have been priced at 9/2 and are second favourites to win.
Manchester City, meanwhile, have been given a price of 11/2 to retain the title, having won the last event in 2023.
After running away with the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich are also considered strong contenders and have been given odds of 6/1.
When it comes to top scorer betting, players from those top four teams feature highly in the odds, too, starting with Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe scored 31 goals in La Liga this year, having played 34 matches. He has averaged 0.96 goals per game and, assuming Real make it through to the final, at the very least, he will have a lot of opportunities to bag goals. As such, he is now the slight favourite to take the Golden Boot, at 9/2.
Earlier today, England’s Harry Kane was joint-favourite with the Frenchman, but he has seen his price drift a little to 5/1, but he is still seen as being in contention, after finally ending his wait for silverware when Bayern Munich won the league at a canter.
Kane has been the league’s top scorer for the past two seasons. There may be question marks about whether Bayern can overcome the likes of PSG and Real Madrid to give Kane enough game time to pick up the win.
By his standard, Erling Haaland has had a quiet year at Manchester City, netting just 22 times as the club slipped to a third-place finish.
However, it took the Norwegian national just 105 goals to score 100 goals for City and has smashed numerous scoring records in his three seasons in England. It wouldn’t be too surprising to see him awarded the Golden Boot, at odds of 6/1.
Next in the betting is Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy. As well as scoring five fewer goals than Kane, he took longer to do so. Guirassy had an average of 124 minutes per goal, to Kane’s 92 minutes. He is priced at 12/1 to win the accolade.
Ousmane Dembele, the current favourite to take this year’s Ballon d’Or title, is priced at 16/1, perhaps representing the fact he is more of an all-round performer, having bagged eight assists on top of his 21 goals this season. However, PSG have proven they can go deep into the competition, which should give him game time to grab goals.
