How does Playbook Football work?

Playbook Fusion’s virtual football management betting game pits player-made teams against each other across 10 seasonal divisions. 

Before every match, you are presented a variety of betting options – with odds tailored to the teams in question. 

This is akin to traditional sports betting; just pick your preferred selections, set a stake and place your bet. Should your wager come good, you receive cash winnings. 

But, unlike normal sports betting, you are in control of which players compete during every game. In turn, you have the power to shift odds in your favour, or challenge your squad against tougher lineups in exchange for greater potential payouts.

Ladbrokes are the first UK online bookmaker to publish Playbook Football – with comprehensive in-game rewards, team-building facilities, betting markets and competitive leaderboards supported by the Entain-owned platform. 

Playbook Football: Features and rewards

On top of pre-game football betting markets, Playbook Football presides over a deep catalogue of unique features. 

Most notable is the XP system. Each placed bet attributes XP to your account, culminating in a free spin of Playbook Football’s Vault Wheel. 

Several helpful rewards are up for grabs on the wheel, such as high-value player cards, in-game currency (PBF Coins) and specialised boosts.

You can use PBF Coins to purchase packs; the game’s primary mode of delivering new player cards to bettors. Again, this is similar to EA Sports’ FC Points scheme. 

Various pack options will go live throughout the ongoing season, including Classic Packs, Promo Packs and Special Packs – the latter boasting the most valuable rewards. 

While Playbook Football permits players to buy PBF Coins for real money, this in-game currency is also awarded after each victory. 

Further, Boost cards enhance certain qualities allocated to individual player cards. Boosts are split into four categories: defend, attack, creative and all. A maximum rating of 99 applies to all player cards, regardless of the boost’s value. 

Skill-based play core to Playbook Football

In a press release, Playbook Fusion CEO, Steve Rogers, outlined that Playbook Football “marries the skill, team building and persistence of video gaming with the opportunity to place bets.”

On the one-of-a-kind nature of this product, Rogers said: “Players have control over the teams they build and can use skill and strategy to improve team ratings over time - it’s like nothing else on the market and sits in a category of its own.”

For the time being, Playbook Football is exclusively available to Ladbrokes customers in the UK. Further operator rollouts are expected in due course.
