Gianluigi Donnarumma next club odds: Who will PSG goalkeeper sign for?
Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was a key component of Paris Saint-Germain’s treble-winning team last season as Les Parisiens lifted Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the club’s maiden Champions League trophy.
However, the 26-year-old is entering the final year of his contract with the reigning French and European champions which has ultimately led to discussions surrounding his future.
If the former AC Milan wonderkid was to leave the Parc des Princes, where will he end up playing his football?
Bet365 (8/15) appear to claim that PSG will still be his club after the summer transfer window given he’s odds-on to remain in the French capital. With recent reports claiming that boss Luis Enrique has told him that he can leave, that seems somewhat surprising.
Manchester United (3/1) are the favourites to secure the shotstopper’s signature should the Italian move on. The Red Devils are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, amid concerns surrounding both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir being number one at Old Trafford.
Chelsea are the second-favourites to sign Donnarumma (7/1), which is an intriguing option considering that the Blues beat Les Parisiens in the revamped Club World Cup in America just a few weeks ago. However, they’ve also been linked with Milan’s Mike Maignan to replace Robert Sanchez or Filip Jorgensen between the sticks this summer.
Moves to either Galatasaray or any Saudi club (16/1) would certainly raise eyebrows. There will be concerns over whether the Turkish giants can afford the keeper’s presumably astronomical wages.
However, a new culture, surrounded with passionate fans and a chance to win trophies in Turkey and continue playing amongst Europe’s elite ought not to be ignored.
And on the other side of the coin, money may be no issue in Saudi Arabia.
However, it would be disappointing to see such a talented goalie leave Europe having not even entered the prime of his career yet even if a financial package in the Middle East proves too big to turn down.
PSG dominate French football, but the chance to dominate domestically with Bayern Munich (20/1) in Germany may appeal to Donnarumma.
Manuel Neuer isn’t getting any younger at 39, but the German is still considered one of the best in world football so there is no guarantee that the Italian would take his place and start on a regular basis.
A return to the San Siro to former club AC Milan or their crosstown rivals Inter Milan (25/1) is as likely as Real Madrid swopping for the shotstopper. The Rossoneri were devastated at letting such a talented youngster depart for Paris, so you dread to think would would happen if he were to sign for Inter.
Manchester City (40/1) have already added James Trafford to their ranks and will probably need to allow Stefan Ortega to leave the club as a result.
So it’s highly unlikely that City swoop for Donnarumma, with a move to seemingly cash-strapped Barcelona (40/1) to potentially replace Marc-Andre Ter Stegen just as improbable according to the bookmakers.
