Gianluigi Donnarumma next club odds: Man City lead Man Utd for PSG outcast

PSG’s decision to sign Lucas Chevalier from Lille over the summer effectively spelled the end for Gianluigi Donnarumma at the French side. While widely considered one of the best goalkeepers in football, Luis Enrique was happy to promote Chevalier to first choice following his capture.

The France and European champions did reportedly offer Donnarumma a new deal at the club, which would have seen the 26-year-old become one of the highest paid goalkeepers in football, yet Enrique is happy to see the back of the Italian as the Spaniard sought to sign a shotstopper with a “different profile” to the former AC Milan star.

In leaving Donnarumma out of the Super Cup squad against Tottenham last week, his race at the Parc des Princes is all but run. With that, we examine the best bookmaker odds in the UK for Donnarumma’s next club.

Manchester City – 2/5 (bet365)

Manchester City may have not one, but two new goalkeepers through the Etihad Stadium doors if reports are to be believed. James Trafford returned to Manchester City earlier in the summer and hardly put a foot wrong on his full debut for Pep Guardiola’s side as they eased to a 4-0 win at Wolves.

Even so, when a goalkeeper of Donnarumma’s calibre comes on the market, it’s impossible to overlook the chance to strengthen with one of the world’s best between the sticks. With Ederson also expected to leave, and question marks continuing to loom over Stefan Ortega’s time at the club, City are looking to really future proof their goalkeeper options with the rumoured addition of Donnarumma.

At one stage, City were at 40/1 to be Donnarumma’s next club, but their odds to sign the Italy captain have been slashed to 2/5 with bet365, and as short as 1/3 with Ladbrokes, meaning a 75% implied probability that a deal will be done.

Manchester United – 9/2 (bet365)

A switch to Manchester is likely for Donnarumma this summer, and while City are the favourites for the unwanted PSG star, United are not to be ruled out. Whether Donnarumma favours a move to Old Trafford over the Etihad Stadium remains to be seen, yet he’d be immediately installed as first choice for Ruben Amorim’s side and would be a vast improvement on the current goalkeeper options under the Portuguese boss.

Andre Onana was dropped for the 1-0 loss to Arsenal on Sunday, while Altay Bayindir hardly covered himself in glory in the defeat to the Gunners. United need to add a world class goalkeeper to the ranks if they are to better last season’s 15th-placed finish, and the signing of Donnarumma would be a major boost for the side. Still, United are at 9/2 with bet365 to trump City to Donnarumma, but also as short as 3/1 elsewhere, so there is hope they can strengthen between the sticks with the PSG outcast.

PSG – 7/1 (BetMGM)

While a PSG exit is likely, Donnarumma may opt to remain at the French giants, even if he’d unlikely be first choice for the coming campaign. That the club offered the towering Champions League winner a new deal suggests he still has his allies in Paris, while reports suggest the player was willing to reduce his salary to remain in France.

Donnarumma is currently at 7/1 with BetMGM to remain at PSG. A move to City is perhaps the likeliest scenario at this point, however it’s impossible to completely rule out the possibility of the goalkeeper sticking around in France at this stage.

Any Saudi Side – 20/1 (Ladbrokes)

Saudi Pro League sides have been credited with an interest in Emiliano Martinez, but why settle for the 32-year-old when they can approach the younger Donnarumma? Italy’s first choice would be a huge statement signing for the Middle East, and they can offer Donnarumma huge wages to convince him to leave PSG for Saudi Arabia.

At 20/1 with Ladbrokes, a move to any Saudi side is an outside bet, yet if neither Manchester side can strike a deal with PSG for Donnarumma, and the Parisian powerhouse is hellbent on getting the goalkeeper off the books, then a move to an ambitious Saudi Pro League outfit could well come off. That their transfer window closes after the European window lends credence to the idea of a potential Middle East move.

Bayern Munich – 20/1 (bet365)

Bayern Munich’s current goalkeepers are at the opposite end of the age spectrum. Manuel Neuer’s career will end sooner rather than later, while Jonas Urbig’s is in its infancy. If they do want to add another experienced world-class shotstopper to the books, then they could do a lot worse than target Donnarumma.

He’d move to one of Europe’s elite sides and likely be first choice before long. Even so, this is seen as a hopeful punt rather than a guarantee, with Bayern at 20/1 with bet365 to be Donnarumma’s next club.
