Chelsea 'PSG'd' PSG – what are their Premier League odds?
Chelsea surprised pundits and fans alike this weekend, beating PSG 3-0 to lift the FIFA Club World Cup. PSG were widely tipped as favourites to overcome the London outfit.
Not only had they beaten Inter Milan 5-0 in a stunningly one-sided Champions League final, but they also beat Bayern Munich 2-0 even after going down to nine men, and brushed Real Madrid aside 4-0 in the semi-final.
PSG, who were 7/10 to win the tournament before the semi-finals, had been given odds of 3/10 in the build-up to the final. However, Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea weren’t having any of it. In particular, revitalised Cole Palmer, and new-boy Joao Pedro put the Parisians to the sword.

Palmer scored two goals and set up Joao Pedro, who converted an impressive lob, to give the Blues a 3-0 lead going into halftime. Chelsea’s other new striker, Liam Delap, was unlucky not to get on the score sheet after Blues goalkeeper Robert Sanchez had been tested twice early in the second half.
However, PSG had left themselves too much of a mountain to climb, and never looked like making a game of it. By the time midfielder João Neves was sent off in the 85th minute, the contest was over.
Commentating on the match, Gareth Bale said: “PSG have been PSG’d!”
The end of the game did get a bit ugly, although it shouldn’t mar Chelsea’s performance.
Luis Enrique appeared to slap goal scorer Pedro in the aftermath of the game, and PSG player Presnel Kimpembe had to pull his coach out of the fracas. There will likely be an investigation into the matter.
Enrique said of the incident: “It was a result of the pressure at the end of the match.”
Despite the ugly scenes, Chelsea will be celebrating the victory, which came in front of US President Donald Trump: not least because of the approximate £90m in earnings they will take. Fans will also be excited by the potential of the team.
Cole Palmer has refound his form after being played in his preferred position on the right. Palmer, Pedro Neto, and new signing Joao Pedro, signed from Brighton for £60m during the Club World Cup transfer window, ended the tournament with three goals apiece.
Just over a month from the start of the Premier League season, Chelsea have a lot to celebrate and will be hoping their Club World Cup victory is a portent for the season ahead.
Chelsea finished fourth last term, 15 points behind winners Liverpool. When the league’s fixture list was announced, they were priced at 14/1 to emerge victorious this year. However, their performance and signings this summer have seen bookmakers reduce the team’s odds of lifting the Premier League.
Liverpool, who weren’t part of the Club World Cup, are still priced as the favourites, at 11/5, but Chelsea’s odds have come in from 14/1 to 15/2.
