Next Nottingham Forest manager odds: Nuno Espirito Santo out?

Nottingham Forest were the surprise package in the Premier League last season, enjoying their highest league finish in English football for 30 years as they eventually finished in seventh place.

However, despite the feel-good factor at Forest on the pitch, there appears to be a rift in the hierarchy between current boss Nuno Espirito Santo and Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

And, following an indifferent start to the season, pressure has begun to pile up after Forest were swept aside 3-0 by West Ham last weekend, as the Hammers left it late to score three times without reply in Nottingham.

If the Greek businessman were to fire the Portuguese gaffer, who could come in next at the City Ground?

Ange Postecoglou (1/1) is considered the favourite should the Forest vacancy open up. But competition to secure the 60-year-old’s signature could be rife, with Bayer Leverkusen and Fenerbahce both on the lookout for a new manager.

The Tricky Trees will play in this season’s Europa League, as a result of their exploits in 2024/25, but Tottenham Hotspur – under the Aussie’s guidance – won the trophy last season.

Jose Mourinho (5/2) was most recently in the Fenerbahce hotseat, but the ‘Special One’ lost his job after failing to qualify for the Champions League with the Turkish giants as they lost in the playoff to Benfica.

The 62-year-old has a CV that speaks for itself, with the Portuguese being regarded as one of the greatest managers of all-time. He would be considered a coup for Forest, and his style of football isn’t too dissimilar from his compatriot Nuno Espirito Santo.

Brendan Rodgers (4/1) is an intriguing option, with the Celtic manager’s contract expiring at the end of the 2025/26 season. The 52-year-old most recently managed Forest’s bitter rivals Leicester City when he was down in England from 2019 to 2023.

The Hoops boss hasn’t penned a new deal to extend his stay in Glasgow, with Celtic supporters disappointed at the lack of spending during the transfer window. Having previously engineered a move down south, could the Northern Irishman do so again?

Sean Dyche (6/1) began his playing career at Nottingham Forest. The 54-year-old is out of work, having last managed Everton in the Premier League. He lost his job with the Toffees in January, but hasn’t spoken about wanting a new job recently.

Dyche also has a track record of managing an underdog punching above their weight, following a successful spell at Burnley.

He guided the Clarets to a sixth place finish, narrowly missing out on Europa League qualification losing to Evangelos Marinakis’ Olympiacos in the playoff.

Despite all the controversy and carry-on surrounding which European competitions Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace are playing in this season, Eagles boss Oliver Glasner (8/1) appears a very short price to take over at the City Ground.

The Austrian won the UEFA Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2021/22, having also guided Palace to their first ever major honour by winning last season’s FA Cup. It would certainly be a controversial move for the 51-year-old to make.
