Ange Postecoglou to replace Nuno at Forest | Arsenal clash, top 6 odds & Europa League chances

It’s never a dull day in the Premier League, even in the midst of the international break. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Nottingham Forest took the decision to relieve Nuno Espirito Santo of his duties with his relationship – or lack thereof – with Edu proving the straw that broke the camel’s back.

As if we didn’t need the additional drama, Ange Postecoglou is now expected to succeed Nuno at the City Ground helm. Big Ange has been out of work since leaving Tottenham in June having guided the north London side to a first European trophy since 1984.

However, it was the dire league finish that cost the Australian his job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs finished 2024/25 17th having fallen to 22 league defeats, the most by a team to not be relegated since the 38-game season was implemented. Even so, Forest, who may be disappointed to see the back of Nuno after he guided the club away from relegation and to the Europa League, albeit fortuitously, have acted swiftly to bring in his replacement.

Of course, Ange’s first game at the Forest helm comes at Arsenal on Saturday to add needle to the clash at the Emirates Stadium. He never beat the Gunners during his two years in the capital, and Spurs fans will be hoping for one final favour from the Europa League winning manager.

Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest

Forest may have lost their last four trips to Arsenal, three of which were comprehensively, but narrative dictates that the Tricky Trees claim all the spoils at the Emirates to kick off Ange’s reign. At the time of writing, Forest are at a best price of 15/2 with Betfred to kick off the Postecoglou era with all three points this weekend.

Top six Premier League finish

A late season dip – Forest won only two of their final eight games of the 2024/25 campaign – ultimately cost the club a Champions League finish. That said, a European spot is still be commended, while off field issues meant that were able to compete in the Europa League.

Fans will be hoping to see Forest go one better under Ange and wrap up a top-six finish to secure a second successive season of European football, with Forest at a best price of 17/2 with Paddy Power to finish in the top six in the Premier League this season.

Relegation

Spurs were fortunate that the three promoted sides were absolutely dire. Had one of Leicester, Ipswich or Southampton performed even slightly better, the north London side would have been at real risk of dropping into the Championship. Might Forest go one better, or worse, and finish in the bottom three? The Midlands side are at a best price of 10/1 with 10Bet to be relegated come May.

Europa League

Might Ange even follow up last season’s Europa League triumph with a second successive trophy on the continent? The stars are aligning for Forest given their promotion to the competition, and they have the strength in depth to go the distance this season, even leaving summer arrivals Omari Hutchinson and Oleksandr Zinchenko out of their European squad. Ahead of Ange’s appointment, Forest are at a best price of 12/1 to win the Europa League with Paddy Power.
