Premier League odds: Who are the early favourites to be relegated?

Early Premier League odds suggest the battle at the top of next season’s Premier League table will bear a striking resemblance to this year’s results. Liverpool (2/1), Arsenal (12/5), and Manchester City (5/2) are clear favourites to take the title.

At the other end of the table, the bookies also have clear ideas of who will face the drop. And it isn’t good news for newly promoted Sunderland, Burnley, or Leeds, all of whom are odds on to fall back into the second tier.

Sunderland (3/10)

In the last two seasons, all of the three newly promoted teams have gone straight back down to the Championship, so the omens aren’t good for the Premiership new boys, especially Sunderland, who came from behind to beat Sheffield United in the playoff final.

The task could be made even harder if reports of Jobe Bellingham heading to Germany turn out to be true. Bellingham will be difficult to replace, especially for the reported £25million fee he is attracting. Sunderland are hot favourites for relegation, having been given odds of 3/10 to go down.

Burnley (4/9)

It was very difficult to separate Burnley and Leeds last season. Both teams finished the season with an impressive 100-point tally after both enjoyed a strong finish to the season. The difference ended up being Leeds’ superiority in front of goal. Burnley only conceded 16 goals throughout the season, but can their defensive abilities hold up against more formidable opposition?

Clarets boss Scott Parker said of next season: “After coming out of a big season where we’ve been pretty remarkable defensively, we’ll see where that takes us.” According to bookmakers, it is unfortunately going to see them go straight back down, and the Lancashire club are 4/9 to do exactly that.

Leeds (5/6)

Leeds may not have achieved quite the same defensive record as Burnley, but they weren’t too far behind, and they outdid everybody when it came to scoring goals, netting 95 times across the 46 games.

That free-scoring record isn’t likely to continue in the Prem, and they have been warned they may need to adopt a more direct route if they want to survive in the Premier League. Leeds have been given odds of 5/6 to get relegated.

Wolves (7/2)

Wolves finished above Tottenham in the league last season, despite the latter going on to secure Champions League football by winning the Europa League.

But unfortunately for Wolves, they are set to lose Matheus Cunha to Manchester United, while several players see their contracts expire this summer. Wolves won’t have a lot of money to spend, which will make their transfer window a tight one. They have been given odds of 7/2 to be relegated as a result.

Manchester United (20/1)

While it might seem unbelievable to be talking about Manchester United and the possibility of them being relegated, they have only been given odds of 20/1. Tottenham, who finished two places below The Red Devils, have been given odds of 40/1 because they are set to enjoy a £100m Champions League qualification windfall.

Bruno Fernandes moving to the Saudi league would leave a large hole for the team to fill, and they need to ship out a lot of players to raise funds for Ruben Amorim to realise his vision. According to the bookmakers, who have priced United at 40/1 to win the league, they are twice as likely to be relegated as they are to win the league.
