Aston Villa vs Arsenal betting tips

Arsenal have a decent record at Villa Park, winning three of their last four visits. While Aston Villa are third in the table, their form is largely built on a succession of long-range, low probability goals. 

The bookmakers have made the Gunners favourites here, but it feels as though they’re giving too much credence to Villa’s league standing rather than their underlying numbers. Arsenal’s price is odds-on but still decent value. 

This is our feature match for this gameweek, in a battle of two of the top three. Five of the last six meetings in Birmingham saw one team fail to score and no more than two goals. That trend should continue.

Bournemouth have been letting data-minded bettors down recently. They have taken just one point from their last five games despite their statistics suggesting they should’ve earned more. As they started the campaign in stronger form than many expected, perhaps this is an inevitable levelling out. 

Either way, Chelsea are in decent form (midweek defeat to Leeds aside) so should be able to win against the out-of-sorts Cherries. That’s assuming they can keep 11 men on the pitch, which has been a real challenge for them.

That brings us to another interesting aspect of the match. The data predicts cards aplenty but Michael Oliver averages fewer than any referee in the Premier League. Bear that in mind.

Everton keep having the occasional sizable blip – a 3-0 loss to Tottenham, 1-4 against Newcastle – but their form is generally good. Nottingham Forest have certainly improved under Sean Dyche but mostly at home. 

While they won on the red half of Merseyside recently, Liverpool dominated the early stages before utterly capitulating. David Moyes’ men should be made of sterner stuff.

Is this the week in which Thierno Barry finally breaks his duck? No player has had more Opta-defined big chances in the last four match weeks without scoring. A goal is coming.

It will be interesting to see how Pep Guardiola approaches this match given that Manchester City’s next fixture takes them to Real Madrid in midweek. Nonetheless, it should prove to be chaotic as that has been par for the course recently. 

City won 5-4 at Fulham in midweek, having been 5-1 up, after beating Leeds 3-2 with a stoppage time winner last weekend. 

While that was happening, Sunderland came from two down to beat Bournemouth and they’ve also had a 2-2 draw with Arsenal recently. 

There is a case for waiting for team news before betting on this one, though, as it would not be a shock to see Guardiola field a slightly weakened team.

Almost certainly. Don’t be surprised if the visitors make a decent fist of this match though. Only two teams have failed to score in fewer games on the road than Burnley this season. 

Their away games are guaranteed at the box office too. Every one has seen at least three goals, with their results including three 3-2 results and a 5-1. With Newcastle on a good run for scoring 2+ in home games against better teams than Burnley, this should be fun.

Tottenham vs Brentford betting tips

The Thomas Frank derby is a match which the Tottenham manager simply must win. It will not be easy though, as his former side Brentford have one of the best underlying expected goal processes in the Premier League.

As such, they look good value for a positive result. Spurs have the second worst home record in the division, after all. Even though the Bees haven’t been great on the road, it won’t take much for the home crowd to turn on Tottenham if they go behind. 

Brentford are also good from set plays and there should be plenty of corners. There were 13 in both meetings of these clubs last season.

Leeds have been like Bournemouth in that they haven’t generally delivered results that their data has merited. They are midtable on expected points yet firmly in relegation trouble.  

The big question is which Liverpool will turn up? Most of their recent performances have contained positive spells but they do not react well to adversity (which is fair enough given what they went through in the summer). Having beaten Chelsea, Leeds can avoid defeat here. 

If you can’t get behind that, how about corners? The Statz.ai data is predicting a low total and there were no more than seven in any of the last four Premier League matches at Elland Road.

With teams like Sunderland exceeding expectations and Liverpool underachieving it has gone under the radar how well Brighton are doing this season. This will be a tough test for West Ham. 

They have a dreadful record in the head-to-head too, with only one win in the last 12 meetings. However, they scored in three of the previous four so it’s reasonable to think they will again. 

Jarrod Bowen looks like their best outlet. He missed a decent chance to get a point from their loss to Liverpool last weekend. The Hammers need the England international to step up.

Fulham were involved in a Premier League classic on Tuesday night. As impressive as their fightback was, it doesn’t change that they have generally struggled against the better teams this season.

Crystal Palace fall into that category. Their win at Burnley on Wednesday means they have won all three away games they have played against bottom half sides. They should be able to take three points from this London derby.

It could get fiery though. Daichi Kamada was sent off when these teams met last season, plus referee Sam Barrott is not shy to flash a card or five.

Wolves vs Manchester United betting tips

Understat’s expected points model says that Wolves have been marginally better at home than Manchester United have been away this season. The west Midlands outfit won both league meetings last season without conceding a goal too, though they’ve clearly regressed since then. 

A bet on Wolves to avoid defeat is probably insanity. But it’s far likelier based on the data than the bookmakers think, so it could be a smart bet to lay a few pennies when they are against a team with just two away wins all season.

A safer selection is probably on a low corner count. There were no more than nine in the meetings at Wolves in the last two seasons.

Bournemouth vs Everton betting tips

Bournemouth and Everton both come into this game after dispiriting losses against north-east clubs on Saturday. The former lost at Sunderland having been 2-0 up, the latter was thrashed 4-1 at home by Newcastle.

This match-up is far more favourable for the Cherries though. They have won the last four meetings in total and the previous five at the Vitality Stadium. While Bournemouth’s form isn’t great, they have won three and drawn two at home since defeat to Brentford in August. 

With Everton only averaging one goal per game on the road, it should be relatively comfortable for Andoni Iraola’s men.

Craven Cottage has been a very happy hunting ground for Manchester City. They have won their previous seven visits with a single goal conceded in the last five. Fulham’s last victory was two decades ago.

While that long run will likely continue, Marco Silva’s men should make a game of it. City have conceded in seven of their previous eight matches in all competitions so will probably fail to keep a clean sheet. 

But they also have Erling Haaland, who hasn’t scored in his last three games. It’s hard to see that run continuing for too much longer.

The average Premier League game features 10.4 corners. The last three meetings of Newcastle and Tottenham all saw 19. Whatever else happens at St James’ Park, there will be corners galore. 

What should also happen is a win for the Magpies. They have won their last six matches in all competitions, a run which includes a 2-0 victory over Spurs in the League Cup. 

However, as Tottenham’s last three matches have seen them lose 4-1, 5-3 and 2-1, there should be more goals this time around. The visitors will probably score but Newcastle will score more.

The obvious assumption here is that Arsenal will win and keep a clean sheet. Brentford have proven to be a tough opponent for the Gunners though, scoring in all four Premier League trips they have made to the Emirates.

They are also good at set pieces – as much as Arsenal are the kings of them, they have conceded a few too. With Mikel Arteta’s side having not kept a clean sheet in their last four games, the Bees can make them work hard for their win.

This match should pass off peacefully enough for referee Tony Harrington at least. He’s averaging 3.3 yellow cards per Premier League game this season, showing three when Brentford faced Aston Villa.

Everything points towards both teams scoring in this match. Well, almost everything – it has only occurred in one of the last five meetings on the south coast.

But the Statz.ai data is predicting it, as is the fact it has been the outcome in five of Brighton’s last six matches at home. Both teams scored in four of Villa’s previous six on the road, with Morgan Rogers smacking an Anfield post in one of the exceptions.

The odds reflect how likely both teams are scoring so we need to add something to make a bet worth our while. Brighton are among the leading sides for scoring and conceding in second halves, so that’s a good starter.

The Statz.ai data is reasonably confident that Burnley will score here but I’m not convinced. In their four home games against sides that were in the Premier League last season, the Clarets have bagged just one goal. 

Even that was against Ange Postecoglou’s Nottingham Forest, who were a shambles during his time in charge.

Crystal Palace have been one of the better away teams this term too, with wins to nil at Aston Villa and Wolves. They also kept a clean sheet at Chelsea and held Arsenal to a single goal so it’s reasonable to think they can shut Burnley out at Turf Moor.

The data suggests this match should be close. Perhaps it will be, as five straight meetings were drawn prior to Nottingham Forest winning at Wolves the last time they met. 

The problem with using the data is that Forest’s is amassed from three managers. They have been doing much better under Sean Dyche than they did for his predecessors, even allowing for their home loss to Brighton on Sunday. 

The visitors will almost certainly win, but they look very capable of scoring twice against the bottom side in the division as a minimum.

There’s a BBC Sport article about the 1970 FA Cup final between Leeds and Chelsea that is called ‘The most brutal game in English football history’. 

This match won’t rank alongside that encounter but the data for 2025/26 suggests there will be a lot of cards. The referee Darren England isn’t shy to hand them out either, with the Blues seemingly collecting a red most weeks this season. 

Leeds have been scoring more often lately but are still struggling to get results. Their last five matches all saw at least three goals, so combine that with a Chelsea win as they’re on a good run against weaker sides.

This is tough to call. The data says Liverpool should coast to victory but that has been the case a lot lately without the wins backing the numbers up. Sunderland’s direct, long throw style has been Kryptonite to the Reds this season too.

Much may come down to if Liverpool score first, as they and their fans will be thinking ‘here we go again’ if they go 1-0 down. While that latter scenario is possible, Sunderland have drawn a blank in four of their six away games.

If the Reds get ahead you can see them winning easily enough. Mohamed Salah will have a point to prove after remaining on the bench at West Ham last time out too. Don’t make him angry.

Manchester United remain something of an erratic enigma. They tend to dominate their home matches, though. They have won the expected goals at Old Trafford by an average of 1.1 per match this season.

The Statz.ai data also predicts them to be a over a goal better than West Ham here. While the Hammers have picked up under Nuno Espirito Santo, the wins have been occurring at home only. 

Whatever happens, most of it will probably be after the break. These teams are both among the leaders in the division for goals in the second half of their matches.

Brentford are perceived to be having a much better season than Burnley, but if the latter wins on Saturday they will be just three points behind the Bees. 

That outcome seems unlikely given Brentford have already beaten Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle at home this season. The Clarets should make a game of it though, even though their only away points came at bottom side Wolves. 

A bet on both teams scoring with 3+ goals in total has paid out in Burnley’s previous five away matches, plus four of Brentford’s last five at home.

This was always going to be a tall order for Leeds. Coming up against a Manchester City side that wants to bounce back from two straight defeats only makes it harder for the visitors. 

Leeds won at the Etihad in their first campaign following their promotion in 2020. City’s response? They thumped them 7-0 there the following season.  

If this won’t be so severe, Pep Guardiola could do with someone other than Erling Haaland becoming a regular goal scorer. City may press for goals to the full-time whistle here.

Sunderland are starting to stumble a little having made a phenomenal start to the season. They have taken two points from three league matches since their incredible win at Chelsea. 

They only managed four shots at struggling Fulham last weekend. However, they have scored in every home game this season and should do so again when faced with Bournemouth’s erratic defence. 

At the same time the visitors should carry enough of a goal threat to win the game. Not by much though.

Newcastle delivered another frustrating away performance on Tuesday, losing 2-1 against Marseille after being a goal up at half time. The Magpies have lost their last four matches on the road.

This bodes well for Everton who have generally done well at their new home. Recent history suggests it will be a close match though, as the last three meetings saw two draws and a 1-0 win for the Blues.

A low scoring encounter looks on the cards. The only matches at the Hill Dickinson Stadium that saw as many as three goals needed one in the 89th minute or later to hit that mark.

Crystal Palace have not had a great record this season in the matches that occurred after they had played in midweek. Is their first European campaign taking a toll?

Probably, but it doesn’t mean they can’t beat Manchester United, who are winless in their last five visits to Selhurst Park. Ruben Amorim’s men have just one away victory this term, with the underlying expected goal data suggesting they didn’t even deserve that. 

Keep an eye on Bruno Fernandes though. No player has amassed more xG without scoring across the previous four Premier League match weeks.

If you compare the data prediction with the available odds, you might think that backing Wolves would be a good value selection. There’s a difference between looking for a decent price and throwing your money away though. 

Our first tip is explained by the 2025/26 Premier League – no team has won more matches which saw over 2.5 goals than Aston Villa. While no club has lost more featuring at least three goals than Wolves. The fixture finished 3-1 last season, which feels a very plausible outcome once again. 

Facing the worst team in the division may help Ollie Watkins burst out of his funk. He had three shots with an Opta-defined big chance in each of Villa’s last two games so looks to be getting back on track.

These teams don’t seem to like each other. The last six meetings have produced 36 yellow cards and one sending off apiece. Referee Michael Oliver is set for a busy afternoon.

As for goals, Brighton top the league for matches in which both teams scored, while only two sides have more that saw at least three goals. If that outcome is atypical for Sean Dyche over his career, Nottingham Forest’s two league games under him at the City Ground ended 2-2 and 3-1.

West Ham vs Liverpool betting tips

You might not think of West Ham versus Liverpool as one of the classic fixtures of the Premier League but it tends to be entertaining, particularly when they meet in east London.

The last five meetings on the Hammers’ home turf ended 0-5, 2-2, 1-2, 3-2 and 1-3. Goals were guaranteed when the Reds had a solid defence, never mind now. 

And while Nuno Espirito Santo should make West Ham more defensively sound, their last two home matches saw four and five goals respectively. Bring popcorn for this one.

The Blues have won none of the previous seven clashes, one of the last 12 and you have to go back to 2018 to find a Chelsea victory at Stamford Bridge. 

It’s sure to be a fascinating match, given it’s first against second (at the start of the weekend). But the Gunners will ensure nothing much happens, score, and win – same as most weeks.

The players may change but the outcome seems to be the same whenever Chelsea visit Burnley. They have scored at least three goals at Turf Moor in each of their last five visits. 

Only one of the nine Premier League meetings in Lancashire hasn’t seen the Blues win a match featuring three-or-more goals in total.

Burnley’s home games this season have all been low scoring, with no more than two goals each time. But as Chelsea have generally been high-scoring lately, with Enzo Fernandez due a goal, this should be an entertaining start to the weekend. Unless you’re a Clarets fan.

Bournemouth can be very frustrating for bettors. They looked great value at Aston Villa last time out but were beaten 4-0. The underlying xG data this week is saying West Ham look worth a bet to avoid defeat, which means the Cherries will probably win with ease.

Nottingham Forest, who Oli Nixon has picked out in this week's Top of the Props betting tips, know they can win at Liverpool having done so last season. Their only loss in the last three meetings came thanks to a 99th minute goal, so they were good at keeping matches with the Reds tight even before Dyche came aboard.

Nonetheless, Liverpool should win with home advantage. Forest can make the end of the game nervy for the Anfield faithful though.

While Leeds aren’t streets ahead of that, they have won the expected goal count by at least 0.9 in four of their five home games in 2025/26. If the Villa attack fails to exceed their xG, Daniel Farke’s side have a decent chance of getting a victory. 

But as the Statz.ai data shows, all three potential outcomes are almost equally likely. A very tough match to call.

A word on cards as it’s a derby – match referee Michael Oliver averages fewer yellow cards per game than any of the other established Premier League refs. Don’t assume there’ll be loads of bookings here.

Everton stand a decent chance of getting a relatively rare goal in this fixture. That should be as good as it gets for them though.

History suggests there should be at least one clean sheet. There was a nil in the score line for five of the last seven meetings in league or Europe. Tottenham’s recent form has been similar.

With Sean Longstaff among the most creative players from set plays so far this season and West Ham bad at defending them, Leeds stand an excellent chance of picking up three points. They won’t care if they deserve them or not.

Matches like this can be tough to bet upon. The statz.ai data suggests Chelsea should win easily and logic dictates that they will. But Sunderland have proven very resolute this season.

They also amassed 2.4 expected goals in their 2-0 defeat at Everton. It’s the most a team has had without scoring since before the start of last season.

Tottenham have an absurdly strong record against Manchester City. There were whispers last weekend that Pep Guardiola’s side are back, but thumping a poor Wolves team doesn’t prove much of anything.

Which is not to say you should go all in on Thomas Frank’s new look Spurs. As they have only lost one of the clashes at the Etihad Stadium by more than one goal (winning two of them), a handicap bet looks the smartest choice.

Bournemouth vs Wolves betting tips

Wolves have a very good record at Bournemouth. It has been aided by the Cherries having a man sent off in three of the previous five clashes at the Vitality Stadium though.

Assuming they keep 11 players on the pitch, their attack (which looked electric at times at Anfield last week) should have been too much for Wolves.

Brentford vs Aston Villa betting tips

The data from last season screams at you to bet on Brentford. Them being 3-0 down at Nottingham Forest before half time last week rather undermines that though.

While the last meeting ended 1-0 to Aston Villa, the preceding three all saw both teams scoring with an average of 4.3 goals. The Bees’ defence looks very capable of coughing up a few more against the Villans.

Burnley vs Sunderland betting tips

Two of the last three meetings of these former Championship teams ended 0-0, as did three of the previous six. The exception in the most recent trio was an absolute goal fest. It ended 1-0 to Sunderland.

The Black Cats scored three times last week so might be ready to unleash hell upon Burnley. However, as their goals all came from chances valued at 0.04 expected goals, rein your entertainment hopes in here.

Arsenal vs Leeds

This is a chance for Arsenal to lay down a statement of title intent. They will want a better performance from Viktor Gyokeres than they got at Old Trafford last week too.

It’s hard to know how Leeds will fare in a game of this difficulty, but they conceded four in two of their three trips to the Emirates Stadium in their previous stint in the Premier League. 

Arsenal won matches featuring at least four goals against all of the bottom three last season too.

Crystal Palace vs Nottingham Forest betting tips

The ‘we should be in the Europa League’ derby will be feistier than its title is catchy. 

IMAGO Nottingham Forest man Ryan Yates and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi scrap for possession.

Whether the atmosphere is truly ugly and whether that helps or hampers Crystal Palace remains to be seen.

Nottingham Forest had the third best away record in the Premier League last season and have done well at Selhurst Park in recent times.

But the xG data says Palace should be a much shorter price. Lord knows they’ll be fired up too.

Everton vs Brighton betting tips

This being Everton’s first game at their new home makes this impossible to predict. Brighton lost none of their final four visits to Goodison Park so will be sad that the Blues have moved house. 

Meetings in the last half decade have featured scorelines including 4-2, 2-3, 1-4, 1-5 and 3-0, so expect goals. It would be very David Moyes and Everton to christen their new stadium with a 0-0 though.

Fulham vs Manchester United betting tips

As well as Manchester United played against Arsenal last Sunday, they lost. Ruben Amorim could do with three points from a Fulham side that hasn’t yet bought or sold anyone of note this summer. 

United have signed two forwards with good records against them. Either Bryan Mbeumo or Matheus Cunha is a decent goal scorer bet option, but the latter leads the Craven Cottage goal count 3-2 so we’ll take him.

Newcastle vs Liverpool betting tips

The player on everyone’s mind ahead of this game won’t even feature. The Alexander Isak saga is undoubtedly the story of the summer.

Under the lights with an electric atmosphere, this game should be chaos on wheels going downhill fast. The fixture ended 3-3 last season, following a 4-2 Liverpool win earlier in 2024. Both were evening games. 

The Reds won 4-2 last week too. With Newcastle out for blood, there’ll be goals, goals, goals.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth betting tips

Liverpool should be fun to watch. They beat Athletic Club 3-2 in their last friendly before but losing to Crystal Palace on penalties in the Community Shield last weekend after a 2-2 draw in normal time.

The Reds have a strong record against Bournemouth at Anfield, scoring 26 times in the eight Premier League meetings. With Liverpool joint-top of the division for wins in which both teams scored last season, this should be an entertaining opener to 2025/26.

Aston Villa vs Newcastle betting tips

Aston Villa beat Newcastle 4-1 at home in April to maintain their strong record at Villa Park against the Magpies. 

Eddie Howe’s side have endured a miserable summer, with a failure to land targets, which is compounded by Alexander Isak’s desire to leave.

They’ve lost four and drawn two of their last six friendlies so can’t be in a confident mood either. Newcastle’s woes should continue in the Saturday lunch time kick off.

Brighton vs Fulham betting tips

These clubs were joint-top in the 2024/25 Premier League for matches in which both teams scored and there were at least three goals. Fulham won 3-1 at Craven Cottage before Brighton replied with a 2-1 home win.

Whether pre-season form matters is questionable, but these clubs both saw our selection pay out in two of their last three friendlies. Their goal-heavy form looks like continuing.

Sunderland vs West Ham betting tips

Last season’s league table suggests Sunderland will have few easier home games this term. The atmosphere will be electric too. 

After the disappointing campaign West Ham suffered, you can’t be confident they’ll win either. But it’s a big leap to expect the Championship play-off winner to beat an established Premier League club.

Goals look safer. Last season there were at least four in three of the Hammers’ away matches against the bottom four, which is surely where Sunderland will end up.

Tottenham vs Burnley betting tips

A match that also features in our Top of the Props betting tips this weekend, The most damning fact from Tottenham’s 2024/25 league campaign was that they didn’t top a mini-league of the bottom four teams. 

Burnley are favourites for the drop so this will indicate whether Thomas Frank can turn that dreadful record around. 

Spurs may be tired, mentally and physically, from the Super Cup, but as they were 2-0 up on PSG after 84 minutes it’s hard to see the Clarets offering much resistance.

Wolves vs Manchester City betting tips

As much as Wolves improved under Vitor Pereira, they still finished 16th and have since lost Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait Nouri.

The latter joined Manchester City, so will likely collect his first league win with them at Molineux. Ait Nouri is unlikely to score though, with Erling Haaland inevitably the goal markets favourite.

He only finished one shy of being the Club World Cup’s joint-top scorer despite City’s disappointing campaign. Haaland once scored four against Wolves and can get one here.

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace betting tips

The Club World Cup and Conference League champions host the FA Cup and Community Shield winners. There’s trophies aplenty at Stamford Bridge this weekend. 

Will the Blues’ summer exertions lead to a slow start? What is certain is Chelsea rattled in lots of goals in the USA, netting twice in five of their seven matches.

With Crystal Palace amassing four big chances against Liverpool at Wembley stadium last weekend there should be loads of goalmouth action.

Nottingham Forest ended 2024/25 in abysmal form. Only five clubs took fewer points from their final five games, with one of those matches a 2-0 home defeat by Brentford.

The Bees have lost their manager and star player Bryan Mbeumo since then though. With Yoane Wissa also looking to leave, Brentford are unlikely to score as often this term. 

As Nuno Espirito Santo lives for low-scoring games, with xG playing a big part for bettors, it might not be the best watch for the neutral.
