Germany vs Portugal betting tips and predictions: Ronaldo involved but Germany secure the win
Germany state of play
Just a few days after the domestic season has ended, Germany are preparing to face Portugal in the Nations League semi-final.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side defeated Italy over two legs in the previous round and are currently unbeaten in eight competitive international games.

Averaging 2.9 goals per game, no other side has scored more than Germany in the competition this campaign.
With the next World Cup just around the corner, Nagelsmann’s men could make a real statement of intent by lifting the Nations League trophy this summer.
Portugal state of play
After losing the first leg of their previous Nations League tie against Denmark, Portugal turned things around to secure a 5-3 aggregate victory.
Portugal have looked strong under the stewardship of Roberto Martinez, winning 20 of their 26 games with the Spanish manager in charge.
After being knocked out of Euro 2024, Portugal now have a real chance of lifting silverware ahead of next year’s World Cup.
Germany and Portugal have been the two most impressive sides in the tournament, so it could be an interesting match-up.
Key talking point: Can Portugal finally beat Germany?
You have to rewind back to the year 2000 to see when Portugal last secured a victory over Germany.
Granted, they’ve only faced each other five times since then, but Germany have got the better of them over the last few years.
Their most recent meeting was back in 2021, with Germany winning 4-2 at Euro 2020.
Cristiano Ronaldo was, as per usual, among the goals, and he’s been named in the squad once again as they aim to end their 25-year winless run against the Germans.
FIRST’s top tip for Germany v Portugal
Cristiano Ronaldo shots on target - Over 1.5 - 19/10 (BetMGM)
It’s hard not to see this bet as great value. Ronaldo is always in and around the goals for Portugal, and if he’s failing to score, he’s certainly trying.
In Portugal’s last game, Ronaldo hit five shots on target, averaging 1.9 per game in the competition. Hitting two against a tired German defence after a long season seems likely.
Extra tips
Germany to win and both teams to score - 12/5 (BetMGM)
As previously mentioned, we could see some tired legs in this one.
At home, a Germany win feels likely, but there’s a good chance Portugal will also find the back of the net considering the players they have in attack.
Team news
Germany will be without some of their key stars, including Jamal Musiala, Antonio Rudiger, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Angelo Stiller.
Jonathan Burkadt, Yann Bisseck, and Nadiem Amiri also withdrew this week.
Portugal shouldn’t have any injury concerns heading into this one.
The only issue could be Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Joao Neves, who played in the Champions League final at the weekend.
Germany v Portugal predicted line-ups
