RORY could go well for each-way backers in a wide-open looking encounter. The seven-year-old has been in the doldrums in recent times, but the flipside is that the Handicapper is starting to give the Jim Goldie-trained representative every chance of making an impact once more.
Off an official mark of 53, he now gets to race off a career-low mark, and is a whopping 13lb lower than when last in the winner's enclosure, which came over course and distance last summer. Paul Mulrennan has an excellent rapport with the gelding and is back on board for this encounter, returning to a track where they have had success.
From four starts over course and distance, the veteran has two placed efforts, as well as the aforementioned victory. With underfoot conditions absolutely spot on, a revival wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world, and a minor upset could be on the cards.
Brighton - 3.40 Uncle Dick - 10/3 (Ladbrokes)

UNCLE DICK is the selection in this Class 5 Handicap over 1m. The veteran has been out of sorts in recent times, but has to be taken seriously returning to the Sussex venue.
The seven-year-old has an astonishing record over track and trip, winning a remarkable seven times from nine starts, and on that basis alone, rates a major player. The return to 1m is naturally a positive move, and off a mark of 68, last year's winner is now 3lb lower than when last successful.
This small field scenario looks spot on, and it isn't hard to envisage Eve Johnson Houghton's charge firing on all cylinders with ground to suit. There are a couple of younger legs who are in good form, but Uncle Dick is a different proposition at this venue, and looks to get back to winning ways with Charles Bishop in the saddle.
Brighton - 4.10 Paragon - 7/4 (Ladbrokes)

This is a trappy encounter, with just the six runners due to go to post for this Handicap, with none of the contenders in particularly great form. I am going to take the drop in trip angle for the Andrew Balding horse, who looks as though coming back to 1m will suit, as he looks to shed the maiden tag at the ninth time of asking.
He's been a bit free-racing on the front-end over longer trips on his last couple of starts, where he appears to have been lit up by the cheekpieces. Back down in trip racing off the same career-low mark of 56, I can see this individual put in an improved display - and one that wouldn't be unexpected for the in-form Andrew Balding team.
The blinkers now go for the first time, and the three-year-old looks more than capable of getting involved at the business end of proceedings, with Jason Watson in the saddle.
Don't forget - Ed will be back on Thursday as the action at Perth and Haydock comes under the spotlight.
