IMAGO Novak Djokovic could be a real threat on a grass court to Alcaraz and Sinner's dominance.

The men’s and women’s singles at Wimbledon 2025 are packed with intrigue - but for entirely different reasons, we’ve already explored the markets last week for some early value plays and predictions - but now it’s the real thing!

Will it be Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner? That’s the big question in the men’s draw - though Novak Djokovic and home hope Jack Draper are eager to spoil the party.

With eight different winners in the last eight editions, the women’s draw once again feels wide open. Unpredictability is now the norm, and several outsiders head to Wimbledon with a real chance of going all the way.

Wimbledon 2025: The title favourites

Men’s draw

The Roland Garros final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner was one of the greatest matches of all time. It had everything: length, drama, momentum shifts - and from the fourth set onwards, the level of tennis reached heights we haven’t seen in years.

Any concerns about a lack of star power in the ‘post–big four’ era can be put to rest. Alcaraz and Sinner, both in their early 20s, are poised to battle for supremacy at the top of the sport for years to come.

Sinner is the world number one but Alcaraz has the edge on current form, head-to-head record, and grasscourt pedigree. The Spaniard is seeking a third consecutive Wimbledon success, having already picked up a second Queen’s title earlier this month.

But write Sinner off at your peril. He stormed into his maiden French Open final without dropping a set, surrendering serve just three times across six matches. On grass, that much-improved serve becomes an even greater weapon, complemented perfectly by his clean, flat ball-striking.

The Italian is in the same half of the draw as Djokovic and Draper, who are projected to meet in the quarter-finals. Sinner beat Djokovic in straight sets in Paris, and also saw Draper off convincingly at the US Open last year.

Admittedly, the prospect of facing arguably the greatest male player of all time is more daunting than anything Alcaraz is likely to encounter in the semi-finals.

Although it would take a mighty effort from Djokovic to truly trouble Sinner. Based on this year’s performances, it’s fair to question whether even he can rise to that level.

Women’s draw

Aryna Sabalenka sits atop the betting board for the women’s singles despite never having won a grasscourt title, nor reached a final at SW19.

That is not to dispute the Belarusian’s status as a worthy favourite. She has produced unmatched consistency in her last 12 Grand Slam appearances, with three titles, three runner-up finishes, five semi-finals, and a quarter-final.

Her best Wimbledon results came with semi-final runs in 2021 and 2023, and she is aiming to break through to her first final at SW19, just as she did at Roland Garros earlier this month.

There could be a difficult early obstacle for her, though, in the shape of 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova. They would meet as early as the round of 32 if they both progress, setting up a fascinating contest between two of the top five contenders according to the oddsmakers.

Vondrousova has been away from the limelight since her triumph at the All England Club in 2023. But has returned to form at the ideal time, as she beat Madison Keys, Diana Shnaider, Ons Jabeur, and Sabalenka en route to the Berlin Open final, where she beat Wang Xinyu.

Iga Swiatek has also enjoyed some useful grasscourt preparation, getting to the final in Bad Homburg courtesy of a dominant semi-final win over last year’s Wimbledon runner-up Jasmine Paolini.

French Open winner Coco Gauff enters Wimbledon having lost her only grasscourt match this season, while Elena Rybakina - second-favourite with some bookmakers - squandered four match points in a dramatic loss to Sabalenka in Berlin.

FIRST’s top tip for Wimbledon 2025

Sinner played just two matches in his warm-up event in Halle, but he should be well attuned to the grass by the time he faces any real threat in South West London.

Barring a career-best performance from Alexander Bublik in a volatile part of the calendar, Sinner has handled all challengers aside from Alcaraz with relative ease over the past 10 months. At this point, a first Wimbledon final for Sinner feels less like a possibility and more like a formality.

If Alcaraz then reproduces his Paris magic in another major final against the top seed, and becomes the first player since Bjorn Borg to complete the French Open–Wimbledon double in back-to-back years, then we simply have to doff our caps.

But when analysing the prices on offer, Sinner appears the value play to stop that from happening.

Pick: Jannik Sinner to win the men’s singles (23/10 with Matchbook).

Wimbledon 2025: Extra tips

Backing Sinner and Alcaraz to contest the final protects our Sinner outright bet while also offering additional upside potential.

Sinner would be a strong favourite against any opponent bar his great rival, whose path to the final is relatively straightforward.

The value picks

Winners of the last three women’s singles tournaments at Wimbledon have been ranked 17, 42, and 32, so it is well worth digging into the long shots in search of breakout potential and identify value bets

Highly-rated teenager Mirra Andreeva has drifted into that sort of territory after losing three of her last four matches. She is around 20/1 alongside Madison Keys, the Australian Open champion, who has long been touted for success at SW19.

A wager on Jessica Pegula could be tempting at 30/1. The third seed proved her Grand Slam credentials with a run to the US Open final last year and has shown encouraging form on grass this summer.

Amanda Anisimova got to the final at Queen’s and is on an upward trend, while the woman who beat her in West Kensington, Tatjana Maria, is available at triple figures.

FIRST’s value pick for Wimbledon 2025

Many were considered, but the standout price in the women’s singles market belongs to Elina Svitolina.

The Ukrainian has been dependable at majors both before and after her maternity break in 2022. She reached the semi-finals in her first Wimbledon back, and followed it up with a quarter-final run in 2024.

Svitolina has made the quarter-finals at both Grand Slams this year, pushing eventual champion Keys to three sets in Melbourne before falling to Roland Garros specialist Swiatek at the French Open.

Earlier this year, Svitolina ended her title drought with her first tournament win since 2023 and has performed solidly at WTA 1000 level  - a tier where she’s previously claimed four titles. Plus, even in-play, where odds shifts can often merit real value on players not fancied at the beginning.

A Grand Slam crown would be a fitting milestone in what has already been a distinguished career, and with her game in superb shape, there may be no better time to take that leap.

Pick: Elina Svitolina to win the women’s singles each-way (40/1 with Ladbrokes).

Also worth considering

Emma Navarro defeated Naomi Osaka, Shnaider, and Gauff at the All England Club last year, delivering what was then the finest display of her Grand Slam career.

She’s since taken another step forward, making the semi-finals at the US Open and backing it up with a quarter-final showing in Melbourne.

It’s not just her record in majors over the past 12 months that makes her an appealing pick at generous odds, whether that’s in the ante-post market or even in-play, where odds shifts can often merit real value on players not fancied at the beginning.

Her game is well-suited to grass, blending controlled power with a biting slice and the athleticism to stay low and balanced through extended rallies - a combination that bodes well on the surface.

She has also landed a decent draw. First-round opponent Petra Kvitova’s race is likely run at this stage, and there are doubts surrounding the seeds in Navarro’s section.

Defending champion Barbora Krejcikova is battling fitness and poor form, while Andreeva and Pegula are respected but beatable.

Pick: Emma Navarro to win the women’s singles each-way (70/1 with BetMGM).
