IMAGO Madison Keys has a realistic chance of making another Grand Slam final in 2025

The soaring temperatures at SW19 in the opening two days have dominated the headlines but plenty of big names have been unable to handle the heat at Wimbledon this year.

Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula were both sent packing in the opening round, along with Zheng Qinwen – meaning three of the top five women’s seeds are already out.

Alexander Zverev’s Wimbledon struggles continued, as he along with fellow top 10 players Holgur Rune, Lorenzo Musetti and Daniil Medvedev all fell at the first hurdle. But our pre-tournament Wimbledon top tips are still going strong!

Both the men’s and women’s draws look pretty open and with plenty of British interest still alive too, it promises to be a bumper first Wednesday of the Championships in 2025.

Emma Raducanu vs Marketa Vondrousova

Two former Grand Slam champions meet in this bumper clash on Centre Court, and both will be fancying their chances of going deep at Wimbledon this year.

Home hope Raducanu has never really hit her stride at SW19, but the talent is unquestionably there for the 2021 US Open champion, and she will be backed to the hilt by the patrons in this one.

It has been a curious two years for Vondrousova since her Wimbledon win in 2023, and she is now operating from a world ranking of 73 but her grass court prowess remains as strong as ever.

As the final match of the day on Centre, this could be a belter and both players should relish the occasion.

FIRST’s top tip for Raducanu vs Vondrousova

Emma Raducanu has been showing plenty of promise of late, but Marketa Vondrousova is a shrewd operator on grass. Back Vondrousova to win in three sets at 6/4 with Mr Play.

Pick: Marketa Vondrousova to win in three sets - 6/4 (Mr.Play)

Frances Tiafoe vs Cameron Norrie

Opening up proceedings on Court 1 is another box office clash, as Frances Tiafoe and Cameron Norrie lock horns for a place in the third round.

Coming into Wimbledon as the 12th seed, Tiafoe has developed into one of the most consistent performers on the ATP Tour, but his grass court record is patchy, and he bombed out early at Queen’s last month.

EXPLAINED: Betting on grand slams vs non-grand slams

By contrast, Norrie has endured a pretty tough 2025, plummeting down the rankings but he reached the last four here in 2022 and he will have home support on his side too.

Both of these players have been knocking on the door of the top 10 in the world at points in their careers and there is very little to split them on paper, with Tiafoe holding a narrow 2-1 lead in the head to head.

FIRST’s top tip for Tiafoe vs Norrie

There should be a partisan atmosphere on Court 1, with Cameron Norrie sure to have the crowd on board and if that lifts him, he could end up coming out on top here against Frances Tiafoe. Norrie is 5/4 to win this one with BetMGM.

Pick: Cameron Norrie to win the match - 5/4 (BetMGM)

Olga Danilovic vs Madison Keys

With seeds crashing out in the women’s draw again in 2025, any one of the remaining 64 players in the mix will fancy their chances of Wimbledon glory.

Current Australian Open title holder Madison Keys appears to have turned the corner mentally this year and her levels of consistency have only been matched by world number one Aryna Sabalenka this term.

Keys looks to have a game made for grass, but she knows she will be in for a seriously tough one here against Olga Danilovic.

The Serb is operating from a career-high ranking of 37 and she knows a good run here at Wimbledon could see her crack the top 20.

With both women possessing big serves and powerful groundstrokes, this could be a fast and furious encounter and the speedy grass courts at the All-England club should provide the perfect backdrop.

FIRST’s top tip for Danilovic vs Keys

Court 2 has a history of giant killings at Wimbledon and Danilovic will be looking to cause a serious upset in this one and Keys will need to bring her A-game.

Keys is a seasoned campaigner though and she should come through this test at 1/3 with ZetBet.

Pick: Madison Keys to win the match - 1/3 (Zetbet

Oliver Tarvet vs Carlos Alcaraz

British qualifier Oliver Tarvet continues to play out his dreams here at Wimbledon, as the American college student takes on two-time Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz next.

Tarvet made headlines in managing to reach the main draw at SW19, as his student status means he is only able to pocket a small proportion of any prize money won.

Playing against Alcaraz on Centre Court on Wednesday however could well be a priceless experience for the young Brit, and he will be relishing the opportunity to showcase his talents.

The form of Alcaraz in the summer of 2025 has been remarkable, winning the French Open in dramatic style and backing it up with a gritty title win at Queen’s, his self-belief looks impenetrable.

In his opening round match, he was given a real scare by Italian veteran Fabio Fognini but showed his resolve once more and he hasn’t lost a singles match here at Wimbledon since 2022.

The fairytale run for Tarvet surely has to come to an end at some point. While Alcaraz will surely be respectful of the young Brit’s run to the second round, he won’t be in the mood to give out concessions.

FIRST’s top tip for Tarvet vs Alcaraz

Centre Court will be doing all they can to engineer an upset in this one and Tarvet should play with a real sense of freedom.

However, with Alcaraz looking to conserve energy for the tournament ahead and after an epic in round one, he will be keen to get this one done quickly. Back Carlos Alcaraz to win in straight sets at 4/7 with Mr Play.

Pick: Carlos Alcaraz to win in straight sets - 4/7 (Mr.Play)
