Norrie survives to keep British Wimbledon hopes alive - what are his odds?
Brit Cameron Norrie survived an impressive but ultimately fruitless revival by Chilean qualifier Nicolas Jarry to reach the quarter-finals of this year’s Wimbledon. Victory in the four-hour 27-minute thriller means Norrie now has to face World Number Two and tournament favourite Carlos Alcaraz to progress.
Norrie is the last remaining Brit in the singles draws, and despite having previously said he is playing some of the best tennis of his career, the 29-year-old has only been given an outside chance of picking up the trophy, having been priced at 66/1 by bookmakers.

This year’s Wimbledon saw 23 Brits competing in the main singles draws – the highest number since 1984. In the men’s half of the draw, hopes were primarily pinned on British number Jack Draper.
Draper beat Argentina’s Sebastian Baez in the first round but came up short against experienced Croatian Marin Cilic in the second round. Having come through the tournament qualifiers, qualifier Oliver Tarvet also caught the attention of fans and the media.
Ranked 733rd in the world, Tarvet booked a meeting with favourite Alcaraz in round two, by beating Leandro Riedi. Despite a slow start in his second round match, which saw Alcaraz take the first set 6-1, Tarvet showed signs of promise in the next two sets, losing them both 6-4.
There was a similar story in the women’s draw. Emma Radacanu, who has arguably failed to live up to lofty expectations after her US Open win, beat British teenager Mimi Xu in the first round before an impressive victory over 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova.
She also acquitted herself well in the third round against world Number One Aryna Sabalenka, but despite running the Belarusian close, she didn’t have enough to get over the line.

As in the men’s competition, British hopes were raised by a previously unfancied qualifier – Katie Boulter. Having beaten ninth seed Paula Badosa in the first round, Boulter lost 7-6 (9-7), 2-6, 1-6 to Argentine Solana Sierra in the second round.
As we enter the quarter-final stage, all British hopes rest on the shoulders of Cameron Norrie. Last month, Norrie said he had been playing some of the best tennis of his career, comparable to when he was a top 10 player.
Ranked close to 100th in the world at the time, the comment was met with some scorn. However, he is proving his critics wrong, reaching the latter stages of Wimbledon for only the second time in his career.
To equal his previous best run of playing in the semi-finals, however, Norrie will have to raise his game several levels, as he will be going toe-to-toe with Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz came into the tournament as the favourite and, despite not hitting his best form yet, he has progressed by beating Italian veteran Fabio Fognini in the first round, British qualifier Oliver Tarvet in the second, Jan-Lennard Struff in the third round, and Andrey Rublev in the round of 16.
Norrie is priced at 17/2 to win the match against Alcaraz, with the Spaniard given odds of 1/18. For the tournament, while Alcaraz is the 11/10 favourite, bettors can get odds of 66/1 on Norrie going all the way and lifting his first Grand Slam.
