The Scottish Open’s move to the Renaissance Club was welcomed by most back in 2019, and since then the test has only got harder. It has become a great primer for the Open Championship, which is now the last major on the rota.

Robert MacIntyre won his home Scottish Open in 2024, after coming oh-so-close but losing out to Rory McIlroy in 2023. This year, a top-class field lines up ahead of the Open Championship at Royal Portrush. The Genesis Scottish Open is a Rolex Series event that forms part of the DP World Tour and PGA Tour schedule.

On the line is $9m (£6.63m), 8,000 Race to Dubai points and 500 FedEx Cup points. Last year, current defending champ MacIntyre picked up $1.575m (£1.16m) for his efforts.

Scottish Open: Top of the betting market

The top of the Scottish Open betting is like the Open Championship market, with several of the game’s elite on show. Scottie Scheffler leads the odds (4/1 Ladbrokes) , with Rory McIlroy (9/1 BetMGM) second in the betting.

Ludvig Aberg is seeing early money pushing his odds into a general 22/1, while former Open champ Collin Morikawa is available at the same price of 22/1 with Ladbrokes. Justin Thomas and Victor Hovland, who both returned to winning ways in 2025, are widely available around the 30/1 mark.

The Renaissance Club has moulded into a testing par 70 links track. If the wind blows, the wispy fescues await, while pot bunkers that encroach onto the greens place a premium on accurate approach shots. Distance off the tee also counts for a lot here, as Rory McIlroy and Min-Woo Lee showed with their wins.

A very intriguing prospect this week is another man who is also an Open champion. Xander Schauffele can go one better, though, as he also won the Genesis Scottish Open back in 2022. Schauffele is third in the world golf rankings, and while his season is yet to kick into top gear following injury troubles, he can still boast a myriad of top 20 finishes, including a t12 at the US Open and a t8 at the Masters.

Schauffele stands out in the iron game department, ranking 20th in ‘strokes gained approach’.

Tommy Fleetwood lost a playoff to Aaron Rai at the Renaissance Club in 2020, and it looks like the floodgates might open soon for the Liverpudlian links specialist. Fleetwood is well fancied for the next fortnight of golf, and comes to Scotland having been narrowly beaten into second place at the Travelers Championship ‘signature event’ by US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley.

Fleetwood had top seven finishes in the previous three ‘signature’ events, and finished t5 at the Genesis Open this year. Fleetwood ranks eighth in ‘strokes gained approach’ in 2025 on the PGA Tour.

Robert MacIntyre defends the Scottish Open title at the Renaissance Club, having had victory snatched away from him here one year previously. MacIntyre has a serious liking for the track and arrives in good form. The Scot was narrowly beaten for his first major triumph, finishing second at the US Open.

Macintyre ranks 21st in ‘strokes gained tee to green’ and is one of the finest links exponents in the game.

Genesis Scottish Open: Value bets

The Scottish Open is now an ‘opposite’ event on the PGA Tour, as well as being a Rolex Series event on the DP World Tour. When we're thinking about value bets, there will be plenty of Americans in the field, potentially trying to earn one of three places up for grabs for next week’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

The ‘top American’ market could be a good alternative and there’s one standout player here for me. Max Greyserman impressed at the Rocket Classic in Detroit, showing a cool head down the stretch and in the playoff. He was keeping up with Aldrich Potgieter off the tee too, and the Renaissance Club lends itself to big hitters.

Prior to the Rocket Classic, Greyserman recorded three top 25 finishes in four events, including the US Open. He was also t33 at the PGA Championship.

Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen has gone off at some very short prices in recent events, which is why I’m surprised to see him quoted at such a relatively big number for the Scottish Open. His form had dipped a little recently, but the Dane has bounced back with a t12 at the US Open, followed by a decent showing in Germany last week, finishing in a tie for 14th place at the BMW International Open.

I’m happy to take a chance on him in Scotland.

Thriston Lawrence is another man who has impressed me of late and looks very much overpriced in Scotland. I like the ‘top South African’ market here too. Lawrence finished t12 at the US Open alongside Neergaard-Petersen and followed that up with a top 10 finish at the Rocket Classic, as he enjoys his maiden season on US soil. The South African is a four-time DP World Tour winner.
