England state of play

England’s Euro 2025 defence began with a 2–1 loss to France, where midfield frailties and lack of physical presence were ruthlessly exposed.

Manager Sarina Wiegman now faces crucial line-up calls: should Grace Clinton replace Stanway to shore up the engine room, and might Lauren James be better used off the bench or in a wider role to restore balance?

Switching to a back three is also on the cards to tighten defence against Vivianne Miedema and the Dutch attack.

A defeat to the Netherlands would likely spell elimination from Group D, with England’s tournament hopes hanging by a thread. Read on for our football betting tips for England's clash with the Netherlands.

Netherlands state of play

The Netherlands head into their clash with England brimming with confidence after a commanding 3-0 victory over Wales, sparked by Vivianne Miedema’s 100th international goal – her curling strike punctuating a confident Dutch performance.

Manager Andries Jonker, who will leave his post after the tournament, must now fine-tune his line-up. He must decide whether to pair Miedema with Lineth Beerensteyn from the start or sustain their fluidity with Esmee Brugts on the wing.

Defensively, fresh adjustments may be needed to tighten a backline briefly tested by Wales. Miedema, recently returned from knee and hamstring injuries, has regained match sharpness, making her form.

A win would all but secure Dutch passage from Group D and place England under real pressure.

Key talking point: England must find vital attacking balance

England’s 2-1 loss to France revealed a worrying lack of attacking cohesion - zero big chances created and just 0.87 expected goals (xG) versus France’s 2.34, with only one shot on target before Keira Walsh’s late strike.

Now Weigman must solve her forward conundrum. Pairing Lauren James and Alessia Russo again risks weakening the team in midfield. James’s return offered spark, but a lone striker supported by Beth Mead and Lauren Hemp might better stretch defences and shore up the Lionesses’ middle third.

Against the Netherlands, England must rediscover attacking flow - balancing creation and structure - to avoid elimination.

Team news:

England enter the high-stakes clash with the Netherlands free from fresh absences, but still missing veteran centre-Back Millie Bright, who withdrew ahead of the tournament.

Georgia Stanway, returning from knee surgery, admits her opening-game performance disappointed, yet is fit and ready. Key players Lauren Hemp, Alex Greenwood, and Lauren James all remain available after their own recent injury recoveries.

The Netherlands have no fresh injury or suspension concerns ahead of facing England, with star forward Miedema now match-fit after a hamstring issue and ready to lead the attack following her 100th-goal milestone.
