Chelsea state of play

Joao Pedro, signed from Brighton in a deal potentially worth £60m, bagged two decisive goals against Fluminense. The ex-Seagulls star, who features heavily in our Club World Cup prop betting trixie, was handed his first start in the semi-final showdown and impressed throughout.

The Brazilian found the net with two of his three attempts, and with both his efforts on target.

Competing in the Club World Cup extended Chelsea’s campaign by a hefty seven matches - and in punishing temperatures Stateside - but the west Londoners may soon have silverware and prize money to show for taking it seriously.

"It is a great achievement," said Enzo Maresca. "It has been a fantastic season - top four in the Premier League, Conference League and now in the final of this competition.

We are so, so happy. We go game by game. Finally we have the last game of the season and hopefully we can win the tournament."

PSG state of play

PSG battered beleaguered Real Madrid on Wednesday to set up a mouth-watering final against Chelsea.

The clash at the MetLife Stadium was essentially done and dusted within 24 minutes as the Champions League winners savaged Los Blancos. The match eventually finished 4-0 and Fabian Ruiz scored twice.

Ousmane Dembele and Goncalo Ramos were also on the score sheet. Dating back to the Coupe de France final, PSG have now won their last five knockout round matches in all competitions by a combined score of 18-0.

“My phone is full of messages from Barcelona fans, which tells you about how big this game was,” PSG boss Luis Enrique said after the match.

“You go at 100% for everything this shirt represents and we know what Real Madrid are, what they were and what they will always be, how great they are."

Key talking point: Can Chelsea tame the PSG juggernaut?

PSG boss Enrique looks like a man building a dynasty after his swashbuckling side dismantled yet another European giant to reach the Club World Cup final.

It's only five weeks ago that the Ligue 1 heavyweights mauled Inter Milan in the Champions League final with a 5-0 triumph.

Despite criticism of the Club World Cup from some quarters, PSG are showing no sign of easing off the gas. Admittedly they had a blip in the tournament against Brazilian side Botafogo.

However, Enrique's men have now beaten both Atletico Madrid and Real across the pond, as well as German champions Bayern Munich.

Chelsea will have their work cut out - to say the least. Over the last six months, rival teams simply have not been able to cope with PSG's passing, pressing and the overall pace of their play.

Joao Pedro registered 26 touches of the ball against Fluminense. Of all Chelsea forwards to have started at the Club World Cup, only Nicolas Jackson has managed as many touches in a match.

Pedro also gave Chelsea an attacking focal point against the Brazilian side, competing in nine duels and four aerial duels before being replaced on the hour mark.

The Brazilian’s record in the Premier League is solid too. He scored 30 goals in 70 games for Brighton after joining from Watford in 2023.

Dembele's goals have already helped PSG win the Champions League, Ligue 1 and Coupe de France this season.

Now he'll have his eyes on completing a quadruple in the USA. He has scored a whopping 35 goals and made 16 assists in 52 matches in all competitions this term.

You simply can’t ignore the 28-year-old superstar on big occasions.

Pick: Bradley Barcola to assist at 18/5 (BetMGM)

Bradley Barcola didn't start against Real - but he's an assist machine.

The France international, who has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich this summer, has 16 assists in all competitions to his name this term.

For comparison, that's three more than Ballon d'Or-tipped Dembele.

Team news

Chelsea duo Liam Delap and Levi Colwill are both available for selection after suspension. Romeo Lavia is also fit after a recent muscle injury. Moises Caicedo is a doubt after picking up an ankle injury against Fluminense.

PSG, meanwhile, are without Lucas Hernandez and Willian Pacho for the final. The pair were slapped with two-match bans for their red cards in the quarter-final victory over Bayern Munich.
