England Women vs Wales Women tips and predictions: Lionesses looking to roar again and ensure progression
England state of play
After what was a disappointing opener against France in matchday one, the Lionesses woke from their slumber for matchday two and stepped on the accelerator, beating the Netherlands in extremely convincing fashion.
Right from the word go, Sarina Wiegman’s players looked fired up, adopting an offensive approach, which paid dividends.

Against an already eliminated Wales team, they’ll be looking for more of the same. Anything less and they could find themselves in a rather upsetting situation.
Wales state of play
From the Welsh camp, there was talk of resistance and upsetting the bigger teams ahead of the tournament, but it hasn’t quite panned out that way for Rhian Wilkinson and her team.
The Dragons were poor in their opening game, coming unstuck against a Netherlands team that certainly isn’t what it once was, losing by three goals to nil.
They did get slightly more competitive against the French, at least in the final third, but they were once again outclassed, eventually losing by four goals to one, and let’s face it, it could’ve been more.
In a match that features firmly in our four-fold weekly acca, can the Dragons now breathe enough fire to burn the Lionesses in St. Gallen? Almost certainly not.
Key talking point: Hemp can hurt her wounded opponents
Alessio Russo, with her hat trick of assists, and Lauren Hemp, who was excellent throughout, stole the headlines against the Dutch, and rightly so, though the performance of Hemp shouldn’t go unnoticed.
The Manchester City forward, who averages 0.99 assists per 90 minutes at club level, buzzed around the final third, running with purpose, putting some outstanding deliveries into very dangerous areas.

So much so that she was unlucky not to leave the field with at least one assist to her name last time out.
A similar performance against weaker opponents here and her campaign in terms of tangible goal contributions will be up and running.
FIRST’s top tip for England vs Wales
Given how dangerous she looked last time out, especially in wide areas, Lauren Hemp to Assist at 2/1 with BetMGM goes down as a decent play here.
Extra tips
As a secondary or additional option, I like the look of Ceri Holland to pick up a card at odds of 17/4 with BetMGM.
The Liverpool midfielder picked up a card against the French, and with this likely to be another tough and frustrating evening for the Dragons, she could once again find herself on the end of a telling off.
After all, last season in the WSL, she picked up an eye-catching average of 0.33 cards per 90, making the current odds look more appealing than they probably should be.
Team news
Sarina Weigman probably won’t make too many changes, especially as the English need to win this game to go through.
Ella Toone came into the starting XI last time out and will likely remain in the team after having made a positive impact in a great team performance.
The Welsh likely won’t change too much either. One potential change is Hannah Cain, who could come in for veteran Kayleigh Barton.
